Hi all,

I always associated a VW beetle with the characteristic exhaust whistle, boxer exhaust sound and the high pitched whine the engine produces.

I have looked at an oval and a Zwitter in the last few days and neither of them had that high pitched whine.

The sound I am talking about can be heard in this video when he revs the engine

Someone told me that there is a vane inside the fan housing which, if you bend it, the whine goes away.

What really produces that sound ?

Could the whining be your wife whining about spending your IRA on a beetle! Laughing

That sound usually means there is a pilot near by complaining about something.

it's fan noise. sounds like a normal 36 hp fan sound. your car has a later motor looks like 1300-1600 single port? they probably used the fan from the original motor?

...it's partly coming from the fan...but the caracteristic early beetle sound is actually a mix of the unsyncronised gearbox and the cooling system
