|
|
So, after a long time waiting for the "right" conditions, it's finally home, my very own BD
It stood in the woods for about 50 years
This is how "I" found it (I actually found it by searching on Google)
I then went to the bus with the land-owner (pictures in my other thread)
We then decided that we should wait for the spring/summer to get it out, cause the ground was VERY soft (not so good to drive a 5 ton machine on).
And then, both the spring and summer came, and it rained a lot...
So what could we do but wait even more...
But then, the "real" summer came, and the ground dried up...
This is what I first saw
After catching my breath, it was time to get to work
Pretty sweet
Flying BD
Ready for it's ride home

Hey what a cool find again, a LHD w/ LH doors ! a lot of parts of the van look decent like the windshield frame, front roof rain gutters, engine compartment. I just love how the bottom again has typically swedish rust. it could have been drawn with a ruler, such a straight line of brown destruction what about the roof, is it rusted through or still solid ? I bet with removing the inner bracing it still can be popped out well.
Great patina, axles still there, cool ! happy restoring !
ps when looking for the VIN on the chassis and tag, try 180 or 240 grid sanding paper and carefully take it down to the solid metal, this worked everytime for me even with extremely rotten vans. _________________ Hotrods, Fords, Veedubs and Triumph Twins !

to clean and turn de vin visible, just use coca-cola and then a small medium-soft tooth brush or wire spark plug brush. _________________ 1952 Type 23A

@tisius
This isn't such a big project here in Sweden, actually!
@djfordmanjack
Thanks man! This is a pretty descent bus, if you keep in mind it has been standing in the woods for about 50 years
Just like you say, it has the typical "swedish" rust The lower 10 inches gone
The roof is actually quite nice, looks a lot worse than it is. It has mostly "nice" surface-rust on it. No holes
@banana split
The land owner thought I was crazy, yes |

Cool find with a great story behind it. I know Sweden still has treasures like yours hidden deep within. 10 years ago I drove through remote areas of your country with some buddies and found lots of crazy early stuff. Same goes with Norway.
Can't wait for the progress. Seems like its a Standard Micro Bus?
Keep us posted. |

@Barndoor Mafia
Thanks! In fact, the guy who "owned" the bus, his neighbor, remembered when the bus "came" to the village! They used it as a work-van, think it was used in the military also (military style reflectors anyway)
Like you say, we have so much things laying around in the woods. Back in the days, if your car went broken, you just dragged it out in the woods
I don't know exactly how many BD's that have been found only this past year here in Swe, think it's about 5
That's pretty awesome if you keep in mind that the "old guys" have been searching the woods for a looooooong time
Yes, it's a microbus, has the cab divider leather upholstery there with its grab handle |

If I recall or what I was informed ………. The recycling laws up in the Scandinavia region were different. Meaning if your car died, you can park it in
Your land and let it site there for as long as you’d like? Unlike other countries in Europe. Correct me if I’m wrong. I’m sure in time you will discover more information about your bus.
Yeah, several BD’s have been pulled out from up in that area, but I know there are more! I’ve seen them but they are WAY in the middle of no where. There is so much country out in Sweden that the few who’ve been hunting old VW’s or any vintage item, they couldn’t possibly cover it all. I was taken to some remote area WAY up in your country and introduced to a very interesting character, due to living way out in the woods alone. This guy has tons of stuff on his land but is very private about it??? I’m sure there are more people like this guy up in the Scandinavia region??
Anyhoot, looking forward to your buses progress and story. |

Awesome extraction! We don't see a lot of cranes moving around old buses here in the states. Good luck with the restoration, which ever way you are going with it and welcome to the BD Life! _________________ 53 Hatch Barndoor
