Love the buggy and the color. But what is the MOTB and where is it held at? Thank you

The MOTB is the largest Manx Club sponsored dune buggy event on the east coast. It is held in the Outer Banks of NC. All the information is at www.manxonthebanx.com. Check it out.

Joe
I know you want to add to your collection, but I think I will keep these. Wink How much more do you need to do on yours?

Rathbone
Thanks! I have been thinking about using Sharkhide. What is the application process and does it dull the finish?

Scott
Thanks, I hope to see you here as well.

I got the center console from Mid America

Bryan
Thanks, I understand the the Towd's won't be in your area till after the event waiting for pick up.

Dave,
Thanks for the compliment, it means a lot coming from you. (I know how much you like metal flake) I am spraying a small area with a thin coat of clear. (about 1 foot square) I am then using a "Flake Buster" gun to spray the flake on dry. It will only stick to the wet area. I then blow off the area with an air gun. Then move on to the next area. After I finish the panel, fender etc, I use a 3"-4" "chip" brush (throw away brush) to flatten the flake and remove any loose flake. I then let the area dry for about 1/2 hour. I then do the same process to fill in the areas not completely covered by the flake. So after I am done I have gone over the same spot 3-4 times and have complete flake coverage and no base color showing through. If you are careful and patient the result is a fairly flat surface that can be covered by 3-4 coats of clear and cut and buffed to a great finish. I have to say that this is not a process for the faint of heart and the learning curve is steep. For example if you pile too much flake up on uncured clear you will get a "land slide" effect with your flake. This makes a very lumpy spot that you cannot get rid of without waiting for it to dry so you can sand it all flat so you can start again. You also have to do it in 2 coat steps doing 3 or more coats can cause the paint on the surface to dry before the lower coats have a chance to "off gas" the solvent causing very small bubbles called solvent pop. The only way to get rid of this is to let it dry, sand it and start the process all over. (ask me how I know this) After all that you do get a feel for how it will work and if you do it in the 2 coat process you will save allot of time and materials. So my next one (a Moss Green Manx 2) will go faster and should turn out better.

Hecubus
Thanks for the kind words. Do you have a build thread going?

Tim H
Thanks and hopefully you can make the event.

Update 9/11
Got the buggy tagged and drove it about 90 miles today. I just put the drivers seat in and drove it. I still have more to do to have it ready for the MOTB.

I will take pictures when I get the rims polished and the new tires installed.

Vince

A man can never have enough rims Vince.

If I could get one weekend to dedicate on the buggy, it would be done. But, I also bought a new enclosed trailer that I need to outfit with winch, tie downs, cabinets and so forth. Then working 14 to 15 hour days is sucking the life out of me.

But I am looking forward to a needed break, seafood, cruising with fellow buggy people and a little R&R. Closing in on 30 days quickly. See you soon!

Hey Vince ,buggy is looking very nice , Did you use a Manx 2 sticker on the nose badge , and if you did, is it the one from the Manx store from Winnie , or did you find a vintage Manx 2 sticker like the old school ones.
The reason I ask is on my yellow Manx 2 it has the holes for the emblem, I have that spare I showed you last year , but I am not sure if i should get a Manx 2 sticker from Winnie on it , it has the holes and I dont know if you would see the hole marks under the sticker?

It's so easy to use that even I can do it. Use a lint free cloth because it gets sticky quickly. You just dampen the cloth and wipe it on. It usually flows out and leaves no streaks. If you get a streak you can immediately wipe it again, or if it has dried then clean the old product off (I used gasoline) and try again. It doesn't make it any more or less shiny. The only difference you will see is that in some light there will be a more rainbow appearance to the shine than is on standard chrome. If you know chrome you know all chrome used to shine with a blue hue, but they removed the hexavalents and now it has a yellow hue. This resembles the blue hue that chrome once had.

Joe
I hope you get some time soon. I know that you will have an awesome buggy for the event.

Marc
The sticker is a die cut vinyl one that I made to put on the hood bump. (I do not sell these stickers) I think that if you put a sticker on without filling the holes you would see them through the sticker.

Rathbone
That is exactly the info I needed!! Thank you very much. You can read a manufacturer's description on how it works, but I like to hear about real world experience. Thanks again.

Update 9/20

Been driving it around since last Tuesday and have put almost 900 miles on it. (working out of it) Still not completely done but I put the interior in, got all electrical hooked up, rear bumper on. and new Sidewinder installed. Got the engine tuned, just need to take care of a few seal leaks.

Thanks! I got the front bumper off the classifieds here. It is the stainless type that was made in 2000 (?) for the Signature Manxes. I got the rear setup from a good friend who changed his out for a new Meyers Manx Manxter style bumper.
