The Hakkapellita C they offer at Van Cafe is more of an all season than a true snow tire. I've heard that the Hakkapellita CS is more snow, but can't seem to find them anywhere? Any suggestions, Paolo |

I'm really happy with my General Grabber AT2's. They're studdable also. I didn't put studs in, but had no problems in snow last winter. _________________ _____________________

x2 on the Nokians. I have had about 6 sets of them now. Loving the WRG2 from van cafe, have them on my wifes tdi Golf as well. Work great for Canadian winter and dont need to take them off for the summer.
Dedicated winter tire. Hakkapeliitta no question. |

well, actually ... No, it is not all season.
it is an all weather tire (big difference) as they are rated for severe ice / snow service (snowflake emblem on tire), are very good in rain and do not wear anywhere close to as quickly as the super soft Blizzaks etc. on dry pavement.
They are also studdable.
Sounds like an all weather, very capable in snow and ice tire to me.
Get the Nokians while you can and get a spare.

I need 14 inch snow tires. The 14 inch nokians have a load rating of 91. Is this sufficient? Paolo |

Sorry Karush ... wrong again.
The Hakkapellita C 185R14 has a load rating of 102 ... and is more than sufficient.

Try this vendor. I purchased a summer and winter set of 14"s a few years ago and they are still going strong. They were less than a year old according to the stamp on the sidewall.

I got the exact opposite impression, maybe someone who knows more can enlighten us.
I believe the CS is an All-Weather tire, and I know someone that is very happy with it, driving it as an All Season Tire. In fact, where he lives there is no snow, and he also drives it on dirt roads. It has not shown premature wear.
I think the C is more of a winter tire, not positive, maybe someone here knows. The C has a lower load rating than the CS, but both are way above VW load spec minimums. Both would be great in snow, and Im guessing both could be used year round, as long as you dont use studs.
Only the C is studdable btw, which is why I think it has a stronger Winter specific bias than the CS.. not sure though. _________________ My Soapboxes: Inflation; Handling; Gearing; Decoupling; Swepco |
