I cannot get a hardware store M5 "screw" to fit in the female threaded dingus to hold the trim surround on the door latch for my door panel ...

... yet the threads look fine and not messed up on that side

anyone know the pitch of the threads on this thing?

Vag-cat claims it is N 0142154 (#17 on their diagram)

Pretty sure this one from GoWesty fits. $0.95, toss one in your next big order. You could check the fit using one of your manual crank window screws if you've got them.

Just for shits & giggles, have you tried the same screw on the other side, or the screw from the other side in the problem hole?

If the hardware store screw fits in the other side, the part on the door may well be messed up. If the screw from the other side doesn't fit the problem hole, the part on the door may be messed up. If the hardware store screw *doesn't* fit in the other side, and the screw from the other side *does* it in the problem hole, they may have sold you the wrong screw at the hardware store.

It happens. Working at a hardware store (in Portland, even), I spend a couple hours every week sorting & organizing the screws/nuts/washers to keep from having a "right bin, wrong screw in it" problem. Keeping that stuff in the right place is a never ending challenge. Rolling Eyes

It *is* an M5x0.8p thread. Same as a Bus, same as a Rabbit, same as a Beetle. 10-32 (imperial size) looks very similar...
