No have not tried it, just one thing to do is to make sure the cooler is clean before install. when a I get a new one, I always fill it with solvent and switch it around a lot then drain into a clean glass jar and let it settle, if i find any metal bits the cooler is rejected. I never use an unknown used cooler as metal bits from a blown engine can get wedged inside and come out latter in use.
you may also pressure test the cooler with compressed air and place it in a bucket of water looking for bubbles. you can rig up a test fitting using one of the oil cooler remote kits that are often sold for typeI engines (dog house style), as their cooler is the same as far as the fittings and seals are concerned.
sorry I cant be of more help. |

Can't comment on the cooler, but be wary of partsgeek . . . . just google partsgeek reviews.
The jubilation of finding parts no one else has, fades when they send the incorrect part . . . . (if they send something). Then the adventure begins. _________________ '88 Bostig Westy |

Hmmm I've used partsgeek for a few years now, not exclusively but I've had nothing but great and near instant parts delivery and service.
you usually only hear when the few are burned than the many are happy in online reviews. i.e. Busdepot service from time to time.. but I'll always recommend them (both) based upon my service over the years.
YMMV
as for that oil cooler, you'll have to make fitments for the oil lines as the T-4 had O-rings and a mount on the block.
FWIW Audi used that same cooler in many of their 5000 cars and used lines with fittings.. so you might want to check there.
it's an unconventional cooler for a vanagon (non AC) application for sure. _________________

i'd have to say pass on it.
my wholesale cost for "brand name" T4 coolers is more than that.
you do have an air cooled van, right? _________________ 88 Van WBX, A/T - 13 JSW TDI 6M/T - 2012 Touareg TDI Sport |

Yes an aircooled. I am going to test the current one out before doing anything. I am hoping that it is just the 2 seals that have gone south.
Thanks everyone for the feedback! _________________ 1982 Westy

Indeed!
Reuse the OG cooler if possible.
They are easy to pressure test w/ a few fittings. _________________ 88 Van WBX, A/T - 13 JSW TDI 6M/T - 2012 Touareg TDI Sport |
