The recent thread on whether or not the forum is going south got me thinking. What seems to be lacking on this forum lately are the project threads. I know it takes time to photograph and do write-ups on our Vanagon projects, but to me these are the best part of this forum.

What are others' thoughts here? Am I imagining things, or are we experiencing somewhat of a drought in terms of technical builds?

Those threads are my faves. I honestly don't care what the nature of the project, I just thoroughly enjoy seeing how folks problem solve their way to the conclusion of whatever challenges they face.

Okay How about I do a crowdfunding thing for my project and i will post it.
I have come to understand guys when projects stall, they csn be expensive and some things take priority.

I agree David, the project builds are the best. And yes, there does seem to be fewer recently. Not to dangle the carrot, but I'm working on one now, at least taking pictures and documenting. As those of you who've written good solid build threads know (and as I'm learning) it's a lot of work to document and put together. Not to mention the r&d and fabrication time. What I'm doing is playing around with adapting a throttle body for the 2.1. I think I've finally found one that will work, be inexpensive, and easy to construct. It will require the VSM upgrade however. (Well one could probably adapt the old throttle switch, but I've decided to upgrade.) I'm going on a 3 day vacation this weekend so I'll be able to do some testing. Either way I'll do a write up when I get back and let you guys know how things went.

Dylan is doing a great job with Corter's rebuild thread.
gears has my full attention with his Syncro trans rebuild.
Andrew with the reversed 1.8T, jesus... and now the Quattro Syncro!

there's been some great project threads lately that inspire and entertain me.

yeah Casey, problem solving is a distinguishing character trait, pretty cool to watch how folks think through things...

and thanks for stoking the coals David!
I'll try to start a project thread in the near future. They are my favorite to read here.

I am just waiting for my Tencentlife Vanistan engine to get here(NOV 15th)and then I am gonna get my rebuild back on track. While that one is going on, I am rebuilding my 2.1 WBX and thragging out my 86 SyncTintop and will start a thread on that one too. I love the build threads!!

Be patient on progress reports though.
I owe it to this Forum membership for the numerous critical threads making mine successful...my transition from regular "no mechanical expertise" in the first 330,000 miles of 2wd use into "substantial mechanical expertise" aquired in planning this for three years and one year for execution...soon leading to whole new future as a Syncro owner.
Living 3 hour's from Burley helps too!

I agree, I find build threads inspiring.
Honestly, it's what keeps me going, that and the threads showing your van off camping and being used!

It is good to see how they did "that" and learn fom it.

Sadly build threads often open up the poster to unwanted criticism as well, which is probably why people hold back from making them!

Thesamba can be a rough place to play at times.
