Two questions?

1) I dropped my Oil Pump on the garage floor,
the drive gear would not fit through the body of the pump until
I filed bore where the shaft passes through on the front(facing the cam gear). I didn't remove too much material.
Should I just throw the pump away, and buy a new one?

2) I was all set to use .040 copper head gaskets, rather than .040 cylinder shims,
I thought I'd get better sealing from copper, are there any reasons not to use copper head gaskets?

deck hight.does it need the .040? does it need more or less? I would rather have the copper gadgets and the piston+-.005 from the top of the cylinder. and what ever shim it takes to do that.
