My bus still has its original window cranks ( big deal, right? Rolling Eyes ) and that means they've had plenty of use. The knobs are just really loose.

Is there a way to tighten these up?

Not really. You could re-rivet them, I guess.

Upgrade to some Vanagon units.

if you carefully pop out the disk in the knob, you can gently with a punch peen the rivit tighter.

be careful popping it open, you can easily leave teeth marks in the surrounding plastic

Thanks much for the tip! I'd already removed the disk (yes, it would be real easy to leave marks), but couldn't tell what I was seeing. Was afraid of just smacking/pressing things without knowing.

Will try peening the rivet as you suggest and report back.

bunch of ways to go about it....put a small socket in the knob and tap the back side. it works pretty good.

Strange ... I edited my last post earlier to note I'd tried peening as you suggested and it worked great! Now as I look back at the thread, that edit isn't there. That's never happened before.

Anyways ... thanks again for the great suggestion. Hitting the edge of the center pin with a punch three times around the circumference left me with a nice tight fit between the pin and the "washer" that surrounds it. Exactly what was needed.
