My bus still has its original window cranks ( big deal, right? ) and that means they've had plenty of use. The knobs are just really loose.
Is there a way to tighten these up? |

Not really. You could re-rivet them, I guess.

if you carefully pop out the disk in the knob, you can gently with a punch peen the rivit tighter.
be careful popping it open, you can easily leave teeth marks in the surrounding plastic _________________

Thanks much for the tip! I'd already removed the disk (yes, it would be real easy to leave marks), but couldn't tell what I was seeing. Was afraid of just smacking/pressing things without knowing.
Will try peening the rivet as you suggest and report back. |

bunch of ways to go about it....put a small socket in the knob and tap the back side. it works pretty good. _________________

Strange ... I edited my last post earlier to note I'd tried peening as you suggested and it worked great! Now as I look back at the thread, that edit isn't there. That's never happened before.
Anyways ... thanks again for the great suggestion. Hitting the edge of the center pin with a punch three times around the circumference left me with a nice tight fit between the pin and the "washer" that surrounds it. Exactly what was needed. |
