I have a 83 standard beetle swing axel rear. I wanna order front disc kit for it but not sure if it's link pin or ball joint. I've had the front wheels off but never took notice. Now it's in the garage slightly buried. We r redoing some rooms in house so lots has been dumped in there! Thanks
Rob

Why do you have a swing axel in a 83? Unless i am mistaken you should have a IRS... Post some pictures so we can see but i'm guessing you have a ball joint.

Hey,
your Mexican has ball joints (here my 83 Mexican, same on my dadīs 84 Mexican; on the photo you canīt really see the ball joints, but be sure that they are there because I had them changed this year after 185.000 kilometers).
Funny enough Brazilian Beetles kept link pins unil the end in 1996.

Geoff:

The Mexican Beetles kept the swing axel through 2004.

It's axle not axel.

Well, I learn something every day. Why did they do swing axle? Is it cheaper to produce?

There may be another thread on this, but IRS was North America only, Europe and the rest of the world continued to use Swing Axle.
