I am wondering what the capacity is in a syncro gas tank. I put in 18.75 gallons yesterday, I thought the capacity was 18 gallons.
Thanks

Think you got ripped off. I ran completely out of gas about 20 ft from the pump a few weeks ago, pushed it over and got barely 18 gal.

I thought it was 18 gallon capacity also. I was waiting for it to run out of gas, I was driving locally and had 3 gallons of extra fuel. My guage is kind of not working properly, so I was trying to test it out before I fix it. Thanks

I always understood it to be 18.5 gallons.

I do not recommending over filling a Syncro gas tank unless you have resealed it.

You can get more than 18.5 gallons into it IF.................
you do not tighten up the tank straps all the way when replacing them.
This will allow the tank to sit a tiny bit lower and will swell as it is filled.
The rollover valves must be working properly as venting is needed.

I am not going to make any claims of many more gallons, but will admit I can get more than is printed in manuals.

I have replaced everything except for the tank straps, I have redone the fuel sender and all of the fuel lines. The fuel sender hasn't been registering all the way full when I fill up, so I was wanting to test it once I ranout of fuel. I guess I am goiing to be troubleshooting the fuel sender. At least I know where to look now. Thanks all

The book states 70 litres but I've managed to get at least 75 litres in Limey at several different places and over the last few years.

This is with a petrol tank, not the diesel tank.

There is supposed to be a difference between the two tanks as well.

Just another data point.
Had to rock my 86 tintop syncro for 2 miles to make it to a gas station today. Pump clicked off at 17.99 gallons. Did not try to squeeze in any more.

Peter at Van Cafe told me there is a South African Syncro tank with higher capacity, perhaps a different front mount used in their production allowing more capacity.
