Spanky sent me some stuff to scan. Thanks!

An ad and the original instruction booklet is up at
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/phoenix_camper.php

He also sent me the original fold-out plans for the Kit.
They are large and must be scanned in sections.
I will work on that soon and it will be added to that same page.

Get your plans for $85. I can't imagine what kind of a bus you would destroy to make one. Any rust bucket worth hacking would also have a rotten frame.

Perhaps the thousands of bay windows that have been rolled over because they dared to run car tires?

We've only had a couple rollovers reported on the Samba. It does seem like one of them was because of tires rolling off the rims.

Now maybe the many burnt buses would be the base for building the Phoenix campers. Just take a good Bay, ignore the fuel lines and bingo, you're all set.

Im not sayin its cool or ugly, but everytime I look at it I just keep thinking of all the metal removed around the cab. Your just hanging out there in a fiberglass shell doin 65 down the road. Confused If you crashed that thing it would blow apart Shocked

Try to find a local print shop for blueprints. They usually have large format scanners and can do things like this for cheap. Usually just a couple bucks for a cd with a PDF on it. Then you can just email it over.

Robert Riley had his act together. In the 5th paragraph of his instructions first page his advice is so contrary to the thinking (or lack of) of many new bus owners of today.

Yea, don't get in a wreck.

When I read it, I took it as "common sense, common sense, common sense."

Not what we see today "but I thought, but I though, but I thought."

Unless you think with common sense Laughing

No need - I can do it in quarters, they fit on my scanner nicely.

Umm, howzabout you start by choosing to recover a already burnt one, rather than not servicing fuel lines on a good one and then just waiting for it to fireball?

Hey, I think the Phoenix is kind of cool! But then again, I liked watching the British TV series "UFO" in the early 70's ...

I added the actual plans a couple days ago to the above page.
Since they are large I went with large photographs.
If I get access to a large-format scanner in the future I will scan them as well.

Dare I say it resembles a vanagon? That must be why it's so ugly.
