Anyone got a pic of a 10 ft awning and an 8 ft awning they can share? I would order this right now (I have prime!), but I want to see what the big difference is.
Thanks! |

The Fiamma F35 awning appears to have a telescoping rafter rather than the, IMHO, inferior collapsing rafter that the F45 uses:
http://www.fiamma.com/EN/products/fiammastore/manual%5Fawnings/f35%5Fpro/
I own an F45 and find that, unless it is staked out with lines pulling directly away (and down to the ground) from the van (which hold the rafters straight), when the wind catches the awning, the rafters tend to collapse, allowing the awning to billow up and act like a paraglider. I think the rafters need to be rigid.

I don't own an F35 so I'm not sure how rigid that little plastic slide holds the rafter. What I do own is an A&E Transawn 2000 that has a screw with a knob that keeps the rafter from telescoping in on itself. |

This appears to be an 8 footer also from the Gallery. The 10x8 vs 8x6.5 is quite a difference in space underneath, length and width. Several people can gather under the 10 footer, a couple people can be comfortable and dry under the 8 footer. But the weight is more and setup is a little more cumbersome if you are doing it yourself, Most people seem to prefer 10 foot, but I like everything on my van to be small and lightweight.

My 10 ft A&E TransAwn 2000. That extra 2 ft makes a lot of difference when it's raining or your trying to get out of the sun. It translates to about 14 more square feet of shade or rain protection, or 25% more room to move around or relax in the shade.
Note my tie-down rope and cloth grocery bag full of rocks to hold the awning down in case of wind. |

I've owned a van with a ten footer and an eight footer. I would definitely go with the ten footer if my current van hadn't had an 8 footer already mounted when I bought it. That is a smoking deal. Can't wait for a report. |

After seeing the picture, I cancelled my 8 footer and ordered the 10 footer. And I changed the color from Blue to Sand. That blue may have looked funny on my Bluestar. Hard to say judging from an online color sample. Better to have a contrasting color and I didn't see any grey ones.
They had 4) 10 Ft Sand units available after my order.
Oddly, they were charging $7 freight on the 8 footer, but free freight on the 10 Ft. _________________ Tim Potts

Just checked out the GoWesty Fiamma F45 brackets. Good price. I'm going to wait until I have the awning before I buy them. We'll see what brackets the awning comes with and how inventive I feel that day. _________________ Tim Potts

Do you think I could get it to work with this roof rack configuration?

So do you need a westy top to fasten it, or will a tin top work? _________________ Don't harsh my mellow...

Here is a picture of the mount that comes with it.

Just got a Multistripe Green in the 10' variety. Looks like they are selling out of some colors. |
