Stuart, is Maisy still jealous because you are consorting with someone younger, sportier and water-cooled? You know, that hussy of a Jetta? You are not going to be able to repair this relationship until you dedicate some serious one-on-one time to her. A nice dinner, maybe the promise of a road trip.

Nice job! Now you better keep your promise or Maisy might get upset again. Be sure to take pics of the road trip you promised!

Open up that control unit you took out and see if you can determine what went wrong.

I was going to guess the whole thing was caused by Valero brand gasoline - the stuff is terrible. Laughing

Did you ever open up the ECU and find the problem? Is it possible to have them repaired? I know/think the ECU from my '72 V8 Benz is all regular electronic components, no chips I think.

did open it up, i think it fried the electronic board somehow. didnt see the problem. i didnt look very close, but later realized a few dead shorts to ground at various times are what likely caused my problems.

i think i found out why this ECU fried. i think i back fed it voltage by shorting out the battery, voltage spiked the lines by running it on just the alternator, and hooked up jumper cables wrong more than once briefly.

Yes, yes, more of this pond...

I saw some hint pics on Facebook... But hope there's some better photo documentation of this most recent fiasco!

look up clean fuel injectors on You Tube, I found a vid that showed how to clean them and did that on my Beemer bike, and that helped. I had an old three cylinder Yamaha XS750 that every time I ran it low on gas I had to pull the carbs and clean them out. When you look at how small the openings are on injectors and carb jets it doesn't take much to clog them up. I just finished replacing all the fuel lines on my Lil Dusty, and I have 4 fuel filters on her, because I know there's a ton of crap in the tank.
