Does anyone have experience with the larger capacity GoWesty LP tank?
Does it lower the clearance too much, 3 inches seems like a lot?
The pictures at GoWesty does not realloy show the tank installed with the vanagon on the ground.

Actually there doesn't seem to be anything in the search on the gowesty larger capacity lp tank.

Hmmm. Maybe so. Isn't the BD one the same as the GW? http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=438047&highlight=propane+tank

Yeah, my vague recollection of past discussions was that they were about a different larger tank. As I recall it was offered by Bus Depot and was longer -- though I think it also reduced clearance though perhaps some owners found a way to ameliorate that.

3" does sound like a lot of clearance to give up amidships.

They are different. The GW one uses a Eurovan tank with adaptor brackets. Pretty nice that it comes with a level gauge.

I just installed a regular GoWesty LP tank (3.3 gal) today. I really wouldn't want one that was 3" lower without lifting my van to compensate.

I have the Bus Depot's larger Eurovan propane tank on my 87 Westy Weekender. Ground clearance to the skid plate/rock guard is 7" with stock springs and tires.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I've had no clearance issues but I don't really go off roading in my 2WD van!

What interest me about the GW larger tank is the propane level gauge... It looks like it's been fitting to the blank plug (far left and grey) that both the BD and GW tanks have.

Does anyone know if the level gauge came from the manufacturer or is it something GW added?

Thank you for the post.
I have a Propex install on a 2wd Westy shortly and the client was worried about the clearance of the GW tank.
I will forward your picture and response.

There is probably a reason why he would be considering that, but if someone is going to buy a tank for a westy, might as well get a second stock sized one for the passenger side and run an auto switchover regulator between the two tanks.

My tank experience has been the same....one with an extend a stay, just in case.

That is what I have in my westy, two stock tanks, automatic changeover regulator and extend-a-stay in the second tank on passenger side

Neither do I, but there's a fire station along the PCH where we attempted to do a U-turn and you can't see the upside down V shaped drainage block in the driveway until it's too late. I shudder to think what would have happened with the lower Eurovan tank!

We scraped the front going into it, but barely cleared the stock tank. Lesson learned.

Interesting... Please elaborate upon what you believe might happen?

I have no idea how close to the stock tank we came, but we hit that bump so hard and fast (because it was invisible due to the color of the concrete and the diffused light from the cloud cover) that I immediately thought we had severely damaged the Westy only three days into ownership of it. Our seatbelts kept us in our seats instead of flying into the windshield.

Honestly, it looked like we were just turning into a gently sloped driveway or I never would have attempted the u-turn. I am almost certain that we scraped the bracket below the stock tank (it happened very quickly), so if that had been 3" lower, we either would have high centered or tore the thing off.

I hope to God that they have painted that with yellow paint by now.

Bump...

Any new users of GoWesty's Larger Capacity LP Tank w/Level Indicator?

How is the tank performance and clearance, stefanandr?

As much as i like aforementioned options in this post (dual tanks) i feel this is the easier install solution for me and includes what i really want - a level indicator. Of course, the clearance is a red flag stopping me from pulling the trigger.

I have the GoWesty Eurovan propane tank installed. The van is in the shop right now. I'm picking it up early next week and will post a couple of pics. I had Jeff of Jeff's Old Volks Home install it. He was happy with the install. I have the GoWesty 1 1/2" lift kit though.

Any chance to get those photos? I got this tank, but waiting to install till new springs and a lift kit. I'm currently running 14", but eventually plan to upgrade to the GoWesty 15/16" setups.
