I really like the 9002 grey white power coating.. A little softer white, but not overly white.. I think the silver white looks to much like rattle can white.. Not to afend people using rattle can paint on their buses.. It just doesn't like how it holds up well in Florida's rainy climate..... _________________ ***WANTED***

EDIT: Copy and paste from another thread.
So I have five of my wheels waiting at the shop to get powder-coated. I have compared the following whites from the RAL chart:
* 9002 http://couleursral.net/blanc-gris.php
* 9010 http://couleursral.net/blanc-pur.php
* 9016 http://couleursral.net/blanc-signalisation.php
From what I've been reading here on TS it looks like 9016 (traffic white) is what most people are going with because most shops carry it (not my place) but looking at some samples online, it looks real bright white to me. The other two (9002 & 9010) I did get to see for myself at the shop and the 9002 looks almost as if it has a tint of almond/beige to it. The 9010 appears to be a tone down 9016, not as bright. I've searched for pictures of wheels that have used the 9010 but came up short
Is there a powder-coat white out there that is an exact match for Silver white? or is what I have posted up top pretty much it?
Thanks |

Powdercoat them 50% gloss black then paint them L-82 silver white. They willl look OG from the factory. The powder is a great primer and you can touch up the paint whenever you want. Just scuff it with Scothbrite then shoot paint.
Yes, you can have powder matched. It will cost over $300 for a batch of 5lbs. Which is enough to do 50 wheels. I had some made. I have done over 20 wheels 8 bumpers and emblems. AND I still haven't used it all.
This set isn't painted yet. Too cold now. |

Just from the photos it would seem that 9002 is too dull - it looks like aged and faded OG paint. Which other photos seem to back up.
the 9016 seems too bright, though nice in it's own way.
I'd split the difference and say the 9010 was best but without photos I'd be hesitant. |

That's what I was thinking about 9002. I did get a few PM's about other whites and the one that I need to get more info on is the Chameleon. I'll check with my PC shop and see what info I can get. I am leaning towards the 9010.
What ever the white I go with I will go ahead and post pics when all is said and done.
As a side note, how prices have changed. The last set I did a few years back ran me 37.50 per (I wish I would have kept the receipt with the code). This time around it's 67.60 per and that's with the hazmat fee included. Still not too bad I guess. |

9016 is way too bright white for sure.
I'd be interested in pics of 9010 if someone does some stuff. _________________ How to Post Photos

I did ask about 9003 but they don't stock that one. That would run and extra 100.00 for 5 lbs.
That color chart really gives a different look between the 9010 and 9016.
The 9002 looks completely different from the chart I linked to. |

The chart above is dark The white aluminum is the color of an aluminum can. Not dark like in the picture. _________________ I make HWE style roof racks, Jim-Dandy racks, SO-33 metal parts, Dormobile racks, HWE style ladders, engine crank start handles, Westy rack tags, Binz tags, Sundial badges, State of California tags, steering lock electrical covers and single / double cab gate latch friction blocks.

The funny thing about this is that all these whites looked different when looking at them on my work computer, my home computer and now on my tablet.
This 9016 looks brighter than your 9016.
At least on my tablet it does. |

Without each monitor being color calibrated it's tough to compare colors. I did see a sample of 9003 at my powdercoaters and it looked pretty good. I did my last set with 9016 and they looked good but are very bright white and do not match L-82 very good. _________________ RPM=(MPH*336* (R&P*4th*1.26))/Tire Diameter in inches |

Following quote was brought over from "The Split Screen Van Club" website under the "L82 Silver White equivalent in Powder coating" thread.

RAL9010, or RAL9016
Slightly differing shades, but both on , or v v v close to L82
I had mine done in RAL9010.
Here you go (phone photo under artificial light)
Better idea in natural light on vehicle
As you can see above, although I can assure you that the wheel in the top image is in fact one of the wheels on the bus in the second shot, they look completely different colours, but perception of colour in the human eye is all about the return of light. So the light conditions will dictate how it looks to a one degree or another.
I'm colour blind so what do I know?!?!
Hope this helps.

This is actual Silver White powder I had made for my 67 Pearl White DC. Both the bumpers and the wheels were powder and the emblem . Your bumpers have to be worked perfect because you can't use fillers.
I had probably 12-15 hrs on the bumpers.

I had my front emblem and bumper painted silver white and comparing it to your PC silver white, mine looks real bright white.

Okay so I got the wheels back yesterday and this is how they turned out. I went with the RAL 9010.
Artificial lighting (Flash & garage light)
Natural lighting, this morning.
Not as bright as the 9016 and not as "dull" (not sure thats the right word for it) I guess as the 9002. Little in between. Not an exact match for Silver White but I'm happy with it.
I cleaned out the lugnut holes on one wheel, still need 20 more holes to clean out |

I was at the powder shop today & had a rattle can of W.W. silver white with me.
I found "light white" by Valspar that seemed to be pretty close.
The shop is going to order a panel of it for me & I'll report back when I can do another side-by-side.
It's a 50lb minimum. ~6 wheels could be done with 5lb.
If it's a good match... maybe several guys can get together & divvy up the powder. Powder stays good for about a year before it might start to go south.
You'll see swatches of two of previously tested colors (on the sheet) for comparison in the first pic. (Signal white & traffic white)
Edit per Everett's comment in the next post:
Pic was taken in a fluorescent light lit office.

That does look a close match.
I would be interested to see the results.
Maybe later this year I will re-powdercoat my wheels if a closer match is found. |

Who handles the PH3144 light white? Also where are you guys getting your powder? I am looking at powder by the pound but wondered if there is a better place.
