this is a realisation of a long time dream for me,
this is burni, she is going to be my work van for "mark's wagen", myself working as a mobile mechanic, i needed a work van, and desperately wanted a syncro, this is the only way i can have my cake and eat it
she's a 1990 syncro tin top, she had an engine fir 10 + years ago, she was stripped and left for dead, kind of.
she's been sat on a drive way in socal since then, after many many hours of hard work and fun she's to join lucy as part of the rubbachicken fleet
she's not a westy, she's been looking after various pop tops over the years
now i have started work to get her ready for smog and registration etc etc
there's a lot to do, i'm going to for now wax the burned area, it's immaterial for our needs right not, most of the part needed are here, although i'm sure there's a list that i will need to find yet.
yes, she's getting new fuel lines _________________ lucy our westy

I like the name too, but think it's more of a boy name and Vanagon.
Enjoy! Can't wait to see what you do with Burni!
Make sure to pack an extra fire extinguisher, so the name doesn't come true!

Remarkably straight & clean! Nice patina. Reminds me of Garp buying the house that the plane just crashed into... "It's perfect!" _________________ '86 Syncro CHC Top AAZ Turbodiesel

it was just a shell with no suspension or anything on it, the jacks were to keep it up in the air and so it could be moved around, it's on it's wheels now.
bumpers are on the wish list _________________ lucy our westy

Can't wait to see you make her as pretty as Lucy!
What's with men and female vehicles? Drives my dh crazy that I call my blue Vanagon he, can't agree on a name because of it. Bet you'd get away with more if you called your vehicles male names cause your real gals would be less jealous!

What's the story on the fire? I must have missed it...

not sure about the fire, it's a long time ago, it was stripped and the syncro parts were used on a doka, that's really i know about it, that and the fact it's been sat on a driveway for 10 years.
it's not right for men IMHO to have a male vehicle, it's not right for me anyway.
making her pretty, that's not going to happen any time soon, if burni get's too pretty she won't get used for what she's meant to be, first a work van, then sometime in the future, an off roader _________________ lucy our westy

Call it Pat. Patty O'Vanagon _________________ Its a mistress; an expensive, whiney, needy bitch of a mistress. She is a chunky, dirty girl with bad skin, little motivation and yet she always makes me smile. She sure has been around before shacking up with me. Vanagons are like ships, they need to be female. My SCOOBY is a she van, hay if you can call men Beverly, and other female names then a female van can have a man's name.
Burni (could be short for Burnice!) is just the right natural name for the van anyway everyone knows the Vanagon spirit is genderless!

That's what my dh said, almost exactly! My cars have always been blue and always been boys. There's no changing it now! And, no I didn't pick my vanagon for the colour, I wanted a red one! That'd have been a girl. Isn't there another Lucy that is red around here somewhere? She's pretty!

You find a replacement for the Syncro parts? Those are harder and harder to come by and I suspect will only get worse.
If you paint her, she'll be pretty, you can't rely on just wax to keep her rust free. Unless you don't have the salt and rust worries we do here? Though, I'll bet you some cookies if you drive around w/ those burn marks all over her butt too long, she won't like it and will let you know and you'll pay the price fixing mysterious things!

Dad and I painted a Baja Bug with a couple of quarts of Rustoleum over primer. Twenty-something years later, that paint is still going strong even after many, many, many romps in the desert. So, a can or two of spray paint can go a long way. _________________ ~Kamz

That's awesome man. Way to make a dream happen!
I believe the Splitty guys call that rust "patina" but I could be mistaken.
I say keep the patina. I bet it'll be a good story starter (or warning) to tell clients!
