I like how you used another section of tubs to extend it.
I am starting to wish I just did mine the same way I did them last time.
If I can find some spare tubs I think I still will. Only cut one side out so far. |
The same pedestal that was removed was reused.. All the other pieces we made by hand... We just pretty much cut it out and raised it using filler pieces...
|
Yeah I know.
I was talking to "Split Nolan"
I do like the work that went into yours also. I cant do that because mine has a 5" (close enough) narrowed beam so I have to run raised flat tubs.
How narrow is your beam? |

Greg almost looks like he likes it-
Either Greg is a giant or sled's tubs raise the seat about a mile! _________________ "My biggest worry is that when I die, my wife will sell all my parts for what I told her I paid for them"-Jon

Cheers Cage, I'll get some more pics up once I've finally got round to finishing them off.
And once the seat is done, haven't had to modify the backrest at all and it still sits level with the bulkhead, the base is still in progress at the mo, but once the covers on should look like it has always been that way. I hope anyway |

Not as cool as air, but this will get me as low as I can legally go (lowest point = 10cm or 4" off the ground. Thanks to Das Resto Haus.

Quick question for you tubbed guys. Right now I got some 16x7fronts 16x8 rears Porsche Fuchs in 911 offsets.
Is it required to tub if I wanna run 18x7 fronts and 18x8 rears. _________________ [Fiddy Whip] |

how low do you want to go? how narrow is your beam? disc brakes? l/p or b/j? what profile tires?
lot of info need to answer that question most tubs are needed because they want to go real low
if you are just going down 3"' or 4" with a 4" narrow l/p beam without disc brakes then you might be fine without tubs
or you are going lower then that the possibility of tubs needed goes up
with those rims you might have to tub the rear also if it is a pre-'62 bus _________________ '60 15 window walkthrough

4in drop spindles, 4in adjustable narrow beam. Porsche 944 disc brakes all around. Adjustable spring plates.
Current setup 16x7 165/40 & 16x8 195/40.
I'm thinking around the same width and ratio of the tires or whatever the smallest tires I can go with, without stretching the tires to the max. I wanna go low as possible without tubbing. If I have to tub then I'll just go with 17s. Thanks for your input Joe56vw _________________ [Fiddy Whip] |

Some more upto date pics of mine now that the seats back in etc.
Modified the original seat frame first.
Then cut the springs to suit. It has been built so it is 3/4" higher than stock, even though the tubs are 1.5" higher. Works well for my bad back and knees.
Refitted the original seat cover and the seat fits back into the stock location, back rest is completely unmodified.
Then after some work with the mango paint think the tubs have a factory unnoticeable look to them.....
I'm happy with them, not the tidiest but in my tatty old bus they suit it....
Cheers |

It is bit harder but to be honest it is still comfortable. I wanted it quite specific, the tubs are raised 1.5" but the seat is only 3/4" raised. So although a lot of springs have to be cut to suit the new shape it's only actually lost 3/4" out of the main length of them.
I suffer from a bad back and knees, so with the combination of the seat being higher that little bit and the steering raise too, I've never been more comfortable in it |

My new ones I am working on.
Still a crude work in progress till I figure out exactly what I want to do. These are a flat 1.5" raise and I am trying to keep the original contour on the bottom. It will be pretty close, should match up to the floor pretty good and still have the foot clearance of originals.
You can see the progress from the driver side ones to the pass. side, I decided to ad a lip so I can shrink and stretch to get a nice contour.
I will buy some thicker material and make the real ones. If I can get it "perfect" I may make a few kits if people are interested.
