There is a nice large feature article in Hot VWs on a Syncro Weekender. Anybody know if there are any threads on this van here on the Samba? _________________ '79 triple white convertible bug

Is there a digital article?
Does the magazine mention what part of the country the van is in? |

I don't know if HotVWs has an on line version and I don't have the mag here. I figured there must be someone here who subscribes to HotVWs. Anyway, it's a syncro with full body roll cage and power lifted roof rack. Subie powered. It would be nice to see more details on his rig.

The vans name is oscar
In Colorado somewhere, sewfine did the interior, the cage was done in Colorado Springs, RMW has added some touches also. |

The article says the owner Brandon Swim is from Taos, New Mexico.
I saw Oscar at VW's on the Green 2013. It was still being finished.
Nice Ride! |

I don't think that one pictured is a syncro... _________________ One of these days I'm gonna settle down,

Nice van, but thats got to be a lot of weight. When I had the van-cafe bumpers it weighed a ton, decided to go with Gw bumpers, I can't imagine the weight of the that roll cage. |

kinda silly looking, no? Proof that you can go too far with mods, regardless of workmanship quality. Maybe if it were completely covered in mud I might like it. _________________ '77 Bay Window / '89 Caratsburg (aka. the Stormtrooper)

First thing I thought was HEAVY, but there is some kind of conversion in the engine bay, not sure what but the exhaust gives a clue.
Second thought, by the time that roof rack is full, the center of gravity is going to be pretty high.
A lot of time, $$, and talent, but not my taste. |

I don't know why but the 80's side stripes make me gag. I'd much rather see some action shots. First thing I'd want to do is give the roll cage a good workout! _________________ 1988 Vanagon Syncro EJ22 |

kind of my thought too, lots of heavy piping went into that cage. The wee little wasser boxer has hard enough time pushing a light weight empty tin top. hopefully a big motor is used, then again maybe the cage is made of titanium, and only a few light sleeping bags will be loaded up top?????
I do like the paint job. _________________ Help Prevent VW Engine Fires, see this link.....Engine safety wire information

It's a Subaru Conversion you can tell by the Engine piping and rear view of the oil pan..
Not my Taste eater, and agree about the Dolly Parton top Heavy'ness.
I'd like to follow that one through some curves
But then again it might be a Weeble..

Wow tough crowd.
This rig is a daily driver for a very nice taos family.
It's pretty impressive in person. While it might not be for everyone, I think it will be perfect for knocking around the endless dirt roads around here. |
