Morning all,
I've referenced this dizzy on two websites but one of my mates is adamant that it's not correct, so I'm hoping you lot will act as adjudication panel between the two of us... Please?
Bosch VJ4BR8
Thank you.

I believe that's correct for 54. The cap is for an earlier 383 and not compatible. Not sure about the rotor. Also the cast body should be black; looks like a poor quality repaint? Here's the cap you need:

The cap is not for s 383, it's also not for a VW. There were Bosch distributors for other makes that used that cap.
It should look like this:
The cap originally was dark brown like the ones in the back. _________________ Glenn

^yeah, I thought that cap looked kinda strange. Flat top like 383 but taller? Any idea what it's for? _________________

Thanks, chaps.
Glenn, can you confirm or deny the rotor's correctness, please?
I'll have the dizzy body sprayed black once I've found all of the tin and send that lot in together.
Pity...all of the real neat 'early-looking' stuff is for 25 Hps. _________________ the3rdrock.com - …musings, discoveries and postulating, by a restless itinerant in search of enlightenment.

Thanks, Everett.
My mate is also pushing the point of spring clips, however, when I do a Google Image search for this dizzy, it shows a mix of solid and spring-style clips, which is confusing the matter immensely.
I'm thinking that perhaps it was a different batch or something to that effect?
My rotor is slightly different to the one in your '55 photo, but it is the correct shape. _________________ the3rdrock.com - …musings, discoveries and postulating, by a restless itinerant in search of enlightenment.

Alright, I'm giving up my hope that this is the correct dizzy. Darn. :/
Thanks.
I'll have to save pennies to bring in the right one... _________________ the3rdrock.com - …musings, discoveries and postulating, by a restless itinerant in search of enlightenment.

Ev,
I've seen early 383s (no o-ring) with both style of cap clips... along with VJU4BR8 and VJ4BR8. There's no pattern and it seems to be more related to who was the supplier at the time.
Left side is NOS correct.
A VJ4BR8 used a non-resistor rotor which the VJR4BR8 used a resistor rotor. Not sure if it matters. _________________ Glenn

Thanks for that, Glenn.
Excuse my (seemingly severe) dizzy ignorance here, but mine is missing its o-ring, but is a VJ4BR8...
Wait for the stupid question...
Is it possibly correct then or definitely incorrect?
My rotor is a little different to the one in the photo (LHS) and looks to use the points shown on the RHS. What a wierd mix this appears to be. _________________ the3rdrock.com - …musings, discoveries and postulating, by a restless itinerant in search of enlightenment.

I was rather unclear with my last message. My apologies.
Based on your input about "early 383s with no o-rings"...
My understanding is that my cap, points and rotor are wrong, but that the dizzy (with solid clips) may be correct? _________________ the3rdrock.com - …musings, discoveries and postulating, by a restless itinerant in search of enlightenment.

The one is my picture would be correct.
Don't get crazy over "correct" tuneup parts.

The wire and solid cap clips were both used in the middle 50's.
Here's a early 383, no o-ring, with solid clips.
And a later one with the o-ring and wire clips.
