Hello all!

I've been a long time lurker for Westy's and so I sold my 73 Land Rover pulled the trigger to buy a van this year.

We went up to Oregon to pick up an 84 w/ a EJ22 and made the big trip back to Austin...surprisingly the only issue was a good ol' floppy mirror.

Congrats. The beasts look much happier in the Westy. Are there a lot of vans around Austin would you say?

Howdy MrTibbs,

I'm also a relatively new Westy owner, also in Austin. Some others on the Samba are talking about forming a contingent. Stay tuned. We could use some groupthink for vans here in ATX.

Welcome! I also live in ATX. Not too many of us in this town--at least compared to the other places I've lived. I've also found that knowledgable vanagon mechanics are hard to come by here.

I too am a new owner. Picked my 85 up in Denver and drove it home. I have found a very knowledgeable reputable mechanic. Toby and Justin at Underground VW on North Lamar

I really want to like Underground. They may be a bit too "relaxed" for me. They couldn't fix my van after leaving it there for several days for them to just take a look at it. …And it came home with mice…assuming from the roach motels on either side of their shop. I'm giving in and going to try Austin Veedub next.

You had a chance, it was on the Austin CL briefly. I'm a big fan of the LWB Rovers.

crap - I really need to update my CL search. right now it's
- "vanagon" - always curious what's out there
- "syncro" - just dreaming Smile
- "rover LWB" - since landys are really hard to get here I was looking for a range rover LWB instead
- "g class" - an older mercedes g class instead of a rover, who knows
- "mercedes 300 td" - that is the ultimate station wagon

WTF is this yelp?! This guy's showing us his new Vanagon, not asking for tech referrals.
