This just happened, and it kind of blows.
That's my driver's side door handle. Well, part of it.
It's been really windy lately. About an hour ago, I got out of my 61 Baja, firmly holding onto the door handle knowing the wind was going to grab the door. Well the wind did grab it, and the the bloody door handle just snaps off in my hand. I guess the "bloody" part happened after it broke as the stump still on the door carved a groove in my index finger.
German handle too...
I guess nothing lasts forever though.

That's some wind... Amazing. Was it an old original handle, or the dreaded aftermaket? _________________ Plate of shrimp |

I'm just surprised that I'm not the only person this has happened to. |

Actually, this happened in Colorado. Probably one of the handles that were on were on it when I bought it... I should like, complain to the guy who sold me a car with a time-bomb door handle like that!
It was OEM German. I'm pretty sure I have another German handle somewhere. All that I have down here are window winders though.
Edit: Here I'll give you the finger - took this after I cleaned it up some while changing the bandage:

Bad looking finger. Heal well.
From now on, I'll consider the door handles on my '64 to be a safety feature.

Masters of understatement. Must be the same folks who consider "cold" to be anything under -17 F. _________________ Central Jersey VW Society

I thought -17 F was borderline T-shirt weather in Jersey. |

That WYDOT message board image, I got that via a local newspaper - they had a story about it today. It was a typo of course, it was supposed to say 35+ MPH... It was only up for a few minutes before they caught it, but it was long enough that people took pictures of it. |
