The Arizona Bus Club presents:
Jerome Jamboree XXIV (That's #24 for all you non-Romans)
September 19-21, 2014 in beautiful Jerome, Arizona at 5066' elevation.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerome,_Arizona
That's right...Don at the Gold King Mine Ghost Town in Jerome, AZ has agreed to let us play in his front yard again this year. Come join several hundred of your closest friends and a few hundred of their awesome Type-2's on the edge of Cleopatra Hill with the mountains of Sedona as our backdrop. In addition to live (and sometimes dead) music, slow drags, cornhole competition, chili cook off, kids build a bus from a box, raffle prizes, the worlds largest VW bus "Walter" & his oversized friends...you get a chance to win this years raffle bus for only $.50.
Every year the ABC restores and raffles off a pre-67 split window bus and this year is no exception. We have begun working on this years bus and boy is it a beauty...a 1966 Sundial camper bus which is a really dry Arizona bus that left the factory as a Kombi and was converted by the Sundial Company when new and this baby even has the coveted side tent. Feeling energetic and want to help work on what could be your new bus? Well visit our website for details on the work parties.
http://www.azbusclub.org
If you come to JJ-XXIV expecting shade trees, barefoot grass and a babbling brook with KOA grade camping facilities...you are in for a treat because we have none of that. This fine facility is a large gravel parking lot which is mostly flat and devoid of any vegetation but there will be port-O-johns, trash cans and "Bus Burger" concessions for your convenience. Basically...if you need it, you better bring it.
Besides the nearby historic mining town of Jerome...there is a really sweet attraction within staggering distance called the Gold King Mine Ghost Town and we highly recommend you save a $5 bill out of your raffle ticket fund to tour the grounds for displays of relics from your parents, grandparents and great grandparents time from long ago...Don may even bless us with a drive by of one of his many fine vehicles from up on the hill.

Sound like fun? You bet it is!
We hope to see you there. _________________ 1979 Type-2 Westfalia “Sandy”

If it's anything like last year...wait, does anyone remember last year?? _________________ “Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Thanks for starting this year's Jamboree post Roy. Last year's event was the best I've ever seen with a huge, fun crowd getting off on each other's rides, energy and some of the best bands to grace the old stage. Not to mention an amazingly-restored raffle bus and well-deserved winner in Paul Jacques! The only way it could get any better is to squeeze a few more folks in that have never been and watch the expression on their faces. _________________ 59 Standard

Does anyone know around what time the bus is going to be raffled off? I'm assuming on Sunday, but was curious at to the time.
I don't normally cut things too close, but in this case I need to figure out how to get a flight out to Bozeman, Montana that evening for work the next day....any info would be greatly appreciated!!! |

Definitely going to put in for tickets on this one! My favorite camping kit, and a nonwalkthru! My 9 year old daughter would be thrilled! Then I would certainly have a bus to donate. Lol.

Thanks,

Donations for raffle prizes are welcome and encouraged...we want everyone to win something. Raffle drawings will be Friday and Saturday evenings with the grand prize raffle on Sunday morning ~ 10am. RAFFLE TICKETS SOLD ONLY AT THE EVENT. YOU MUST BE PRESENT AND WEARING AN APPROPRIATE WRIST BAND TO WIN!
There is a VW caravan leaving on Friday morning with the 1966 Sundial Raffle Bus leading the way. Our special guest Bill Bowman aka "Bullibill" (of Hot VWs "Transporter Talk") will be our pilot of the raffle bus during the caravan. Jerome Caravan is meeting 7am on Friday September 19th at the Home Depot parking lot in the northeast corner of I-17 and Thunderbird Rd in nothern Phoenix, AZ and departing by 7:30am. We will also stop at the Albertsons grocery store in Prescot Valley for 30 minutes for last chance fuel, food and ice.
NOTES:
We are expecting a record size crowd this year and our event space is limited so please be very conservative with the size of your camping space. There will be chalked lanes for required emergency vehicle access, please do not penetrate the marked lanes with your vehicles, camping or swap items. If the organizers feel your campsite is too large they will ask you to condense it or will squeeze late comers in with you. To discourage excessively sized trailers and/or campers taking up valuable VW space the organizers may charge extra for implements larger than a VW bus so please leave the RV's at home. This is intended to be a VW only event so when you wake up each morning all you see are VW emblems and the smell of gear oil dripping.
Swapping from your VW is highly encouraged so we are allowing you to sell your unwanted VW parts right from your vehicle at no additional charge. Please keep your swap items VW related and condensed to your campsite. Otherwise consider using the vendor area to peddle your goods.
Jerome Jamboree is a family friendly event and we welcome all of your kinfolk including the four legged versions. Please control your family and pick up after them so all guests can have a great time. Please put all recyclables, litter and excrement in the appropriate receptacles that will be liberally placed around the event. Unruly and/or vulgar guests will be escorted from the event and possibly barred from future ABC events.
Please keep loud music, cackling and conversations to a low volume after 10pm. The event is very condensed so please be considerate of your camping neighbors.
Pets are welcome but please remember this event is held during late summer in Arizona which can be very warm. The site is a barren gravel lot with no shade or water available. Please make sure to provide them with plenty of water and pick up their steaming divots immediately upon delivery. _________________ 1979 Type-2 Westfalia “Sandy”

I'm honored to be invited to drive the 2014 ABC "Raffle Bus" up to the Jerome Jamboree for the weekend. I promise to drive carefully, as just like everyone else, I'll be buying a wad of raffle tickets too in hopes of possibly driving this cool Camper home. This will be my first JJ, and I can't wait to enjoy the madness! But I am NOT getting a tattoo that weekend, okay?
Looking forward to seeing everyone soon!
