Are they driving lights or fog lights?

I have had hella 550 clear fog lights, cibie oscar plus+ fogs, and now Lightforce lance 140's with a wide angle filter.
I agree with IdahoDoug that pencil beams aren't the best solution for driving as you are limiting your vision to a single point in front of you and you will miss out on anything on the side of the road waiting to jump out.

Well gosh darn it I done burned out one of my Hella 500 fog lamp bulbs. Finding the replacement bulb was no problem, but shipping costs made it spendy.
Today I installed the new halogen bulbs from ECO Safety Lights and they give off a nice, sharp white light. The best part was that the twin pack cost only $5.81 with free shipping out of Chicago. That was fully ˝ the price of a single bulb on Amazon, without added shipping! Find them at ecosafetylights.com
Cheers,
Jeffery

Here's mine. Hella 500s. I think these are driving lights or combo driving/fog lights.

I know fog lamps should be low and throw a wide beam.

I still haven't figured out how to mount them low enough without them being damaged off road. So I opt to just throw a bunch of lumens out there.

Top bar is 5 Hella HID 50W 15,000 Lumens @ 60 Lumens per Watt
South Africa Grill has 80W/100W H4 10,800 Lumens (all on) 30 Lumens Per Watt.
Front LED is 72W 24x3 11,520 Lumen @ 160 Lumens per Watt.
Total Lumens 37,320.

I run the front LED as a daytime running lamp also.

A stock Vanagon throws about 2400 lumens. 35/65 Watt @ 12 Lumen per Watt.

At least whatever I hit will see me coming! Rolling Eyes
And yes, the alternator feels all these lights on. But I am old and still scared of the dark. Shocked

Oh, I am sure someone will find fault in my calculations...

Big ones are Hella Rally 2000 & Small ones are Hella OE. All carry 100 watts each.

I just mounted a set of Hella 500 driving lights from the Van Café. I used the wiring harness included with the lights, used a stock Vanagon fog light (3 position) switch mounted in the instrument cluster blank spot, and wired them so I can turn them on when the key in is in the "run" position only.

(It's an 87 with stock rectangle headlights were swapped out for round Bosch H4's with 80/100 bulbs on relays)

I also added a second fuse panel (Blue Seas) wired directly from the battery so as not to put additional load on the stock fuse panel. That's a Bosch 70A relay to control the fuse panel and the grey stuff is Lizard Skin sound deadener. It's a mid project photo... I've made a few minor changes, removed the temporary blue tape and used my label maker to keep things tidy and clear.

Those look sweet! Very Happy

If you want to triple your lumens and reduce your wattage by half try this HID replacement. That is what I did and you cannot believe the difference in light output! Cool Cool

^ that is a clean/simple retrofit!

I had these IPFs that I had for my skid bar on one of my Imprezas.
I opted to mount them and put in a $5 rocker switch where the OEM fog lights go until I can find a deal on an OEM switch (I'm cheap).
The fog lights came with a harness that I still need to wire up but I think the covers seam decently well with the grill.

I don't remember seeing a 72W Led bar going over 6000lm. Where did you get yours, what brand name if you are willing to share?.

Thanks

I am using these PIAAs. They are about 6 inches around and put off a ton of light. Not cheap, but a well put together system.

http://www.piaa.com/store/p/84-520-Ion-Yellow-Fog-Halogen-Lamp-Kit.aspx

I am also running the TerraPodz, which actually do emit quite a bit of usable light at night.

I was just going off of an led chart that showed 160 lumens per watt.

Here is the lamp. 5400 Lumen.

Still a pretty bright lamp. Cool

Here's my GL with a couple of Hellas mounted above the bumper. I had them wired come on with the high-beams. Fills in that darkish area below the high-beams and a little bit on the sides of the road. Helps out a lot on the way to work.

Too bad the TerraPodz couldn't be fashioned to install some fog lamps.
Those really look sweet with the SA grille. Applause

Nice looking setup. I was wondering if you saw your engine temps go up with the winch cover blocking the lower grill?

Nope, I have not noticed any change in the engine temps. With the neoprene cover off there quite a bit more opening exposed for air passage. It has only been on since December so I have not had it exposed to excessive ambient temperatures yet. If it does make a difference I can carry it on the back receiver if needed. This is one reason I went with the portable system is being able to move it around and even to anyone elses vehicle if needed. Sometimes your buddy just gets in too far! Rolling Eyes
