I have had mine since the 80's and towed bugs and buggies with it with no problems at all with it.

I'd say there is a large safety factor seeing that most buggies are around 1600 lbs.. My towbar, circa 1975 is a lot heavier than the towbars you buy these days.

Hypnotic.. Shocked Loved it.

I have a fold up version of that tow bar. I have towed many a beetle and buggy with it. Adapted it to a 1984 Jetta to tow that 50 miles. I even flat towed a 1975 914 towed behind a 1985 Dodge Charger 2.2 from Santa Fe, New Mexico to Brackney, PA. Still hangs on my garage wall ready to serve.

Great video. Thank you.

has anyone adapted something like this to use on a narrowed beam car?

Otherwise we have to cut and weld / Redesign what we have...

Regards,

Made one that had an adjustable X-bar in the middle and interchangeable (bolt on) ends for VW, Honda, Toyota. I towed a few dozen cars with it over 15 years. I towed my rail around 200 miles and back with it last summer. It went with a car I sold last fall, so I am back to the version you show here.

Mine is 1600 pounds with me in it.

But I don't dare put the tow bar on my aluminum beam..
And Yes I dare to buggy with alum beam (street use buggy)
Tried once with some rubber to protect it and it wore thru the rubber quick.

Now when I tow it I put it inside my moving truck with ramps.. LOL

I even towed it like this once.. short distance ratchet strapped to my lift gate LOL..

Hey whatever works right..

Our Buggys weigh @ 1500 pounds but its not 1500 pounds chained to a pole. I think the tow bars will be fine.

Great advertising gimmick and certainly gives one thought, but a "rolling" 1600lb car really is not that much strain on tow bar....

I don't wish to Hijack but I'm assuming that using a tow bar like this means it's OK to tow in "all four down". I will be towing mine one day behind my coach and was wondering if there was anything I needed to do.
Thanx!!!

Don't back up! The front wheels will follow nicely if you are going forward, but will flop over to full lock left or right if you try to back up.

It already has a dummy behind the wheel. But a mannequin would be funny!

Ditto... Only once in all my years of towing, buggy only once let me back up about 20 feet to get clear of idiot who boxed me in at a gas pump.....
