German Trans Axle in the PNW is the only major player I know of for the auto.

I have a fellow who's done quite a few for me, always works out perfect, no issues at all...I always have decent cores here too, so I could always drop one off for you and ship it from here. I sent one to Toronto on Tuesday, $140 freight door to door. He's gone for a few weeks, if you Pmail me I'll send you his contact info. He's in Halifax, about an hour from me, and he takes credit cards. He's been in business for 30plus years and serves the local racing community.
Do you rebuild your manual transmissions yourself?

if you separate the 2 halves it's no different than a 80-93 VW rabbit/golf/jetta/cabriolet/Audi 80/4000/5000

don't tell them it's a vanagon part Wink

most any Trans shops should handle for a 80-93 cabriolet Question

The Vanagon has a cooler... I've drilled the Jetta case for the cooler though and the shift cable has only one mounting bolt too, if I remember...

Off topic and a question..would a 1989 Audi 100 turbo automatic 3 speed be a suitable donor for a Vanagon with the better automatic internals? Is the 89 Audi an "010" automatic? There is one at the local pull-a-part I might go get. Google has not been helpful. I did do a Audi turbo internals swap on my Vanagon a few years ago..but the donor automatic was an earlier Audi 5000 turbo.

On topic: Ben..those Vanagon automatics are very simple. The back to back seals on the diff and a $100 rebuild kit and you are good to go. Your masterful rebuild work on the WBX engines is more challenging than the WBX automatic..

Unless the ring and pinion are compromised the diff is very solid. Just change the seals.

I think the Audi has a 4 gear planetary instead of 3. Supposed to be stronger.

Yep..two four gear planetary gear sets and some other strong points too. Bronze thrust bushings..extra disc in the clutch pack.

Just asking if anyone knows if a 89 Audi turbo has the 010..want to save a trip out there to the bone yard.

Yes the 89 audi is a 010
No an audi 100 (non-turbo) likely has 3 planetary gears *maybe it does though.
an audi 200 (turbo) would have 4 planetary gears.. this I know 4certain.
