This is too funny. Someone from Seattle asking someone from Arizona about their wipers is like someone from Arizona asking someone from Seattle about their air conditioning.
My what? Oh ya, I turned that on once.

OK Terrapodz content. I had a chance to take pictures of the old Projectzwo lights (or they could be a repro) up close. I didn't fully appreciate the great design that went into the Terrapodz until I had a look at both up close. Beautiful work, really much better than the original IMHO.

Ta Da, mine are installed!

Only thing I don't love has nothing to do with the lights, the colour of the grill (old and faded and dull) does not match the new and shiny and bright black on the lights. From a distance, they also look a bit hollow, think I'd have preferred the silver painted option that makes it match/co-ordinate with the back of the original Vanagon light (that needs to be cleaned this summer I might add).

My review. I like them. They're pretty. They're bright and shiny. They make our Vanagon safer and modern.

For installation, mine come on/off with the key, no switch. He made a wiring harness, that went through the Vanagon and into the fuse box. Exactly what I wanted. I forgot to ask which fuse they are on and what happens if I pull that fuse should I ever want them off. Originally, I wanted them on a switch, but agreed with who ever said they thought that and had only used it once. So, I checked out my car and realized those ones can't be turned off ever. Since I've had that car over ten years and never had a need TO turn them off, I'm good with them going in this way. And, happy too!

Thanks!

tam

Someone just pointed out I could use a can of this! Summer Project!

I want to know what these are. I like them. this is what I want.

I think what I see here is one plastic cover fitting over both lights.
if I'm wrong maybe someone can enlighten me.

The way that it doesn't fit in the grill correctly I believe that you are looking at a single headlight unit out of some small european car like a maestro.

that very well may be. the builder is in the UK and I believe works in a wrecking yard.

still the best fitting alternative in a square eye grill that I have seen so far.

Got the Podz mounted yesterday but have not hooked up to power yet. I want to put mine on a switch
and didn't see here what size of inline fuse is best to use. These being LEDs , I am thinking 1 or 5
amps? I will be powering these thru a relay and have it connected to my lowbeam wiring. Any thoughts?

The KC Hilites Cyclone LEDs that the TerraPodz use are listed as 3.40W each, so you will have a total amperage draw of 0.6A for a set. A 1A fuse should be fine to protect them, but 3A is generally easier to find.

Since the power draw is so low, there is no need to use a relay to power the TerraPodz unless you are worried about low supply voltage for some reason.

For an ultra simple installation, connect them to one of the "G" terminals on the back of the 86-91 fuse block. These connectors are already fused and are meant to be used for accessory loads.

Connector G1 & G3 are X-bus controlled (on with ignition, off when cranking) fuse protected via S12.

G2 & G5 are on with the ignition, protected via S18.

16AWG wire is more than enough to power the LEDs. They can be locally grounded to any point on the chassis to make wiring simple and clean.

If you need any wiring supplies, I am only about 30 minutes away in Newmarket, NH.

Installation was simple. The hardest part was deciding where to put the sticker!

Kamz and Tamz:

First to Kamz, thanks for the pictures. It makes a pretty good case that the lights do a bit of fill in. Also, I like your mention of campground etiquette. Wouldn't it be nice if campgrounds had all folks who are so considerate?

Second, to Tam, Your installer did a fine looking job. Deserves a batch of cookies, methinks.

THANKS! That is way cheaper than the other one I was looking at! And, everything at CT goes on sale! Great summer job.

Thank you, I'd never see my installer with out cookies, he is a busy guy and it can't hurt! And, I agree with the need for more old fashioned camping etiquette. It makes all the difference in the world when you neighbors are considerate.

Also: the way you describe the fitment it sounds like your grill isn't centred? Another guy suggested loosening the grill so it can shift while fitting. Or maybe this is a CIP quality thing too.

No I totally had my grill loose and floating to try to get a good fit, they just seem too short.

I'm having this same (?) issue now that I'm trying to fit mine. My grill is centered, but on each side the terrapods don't come inboard far enough so that the holes line up with anything flush enough. This causes the provided fasteners to not grab and pop out Sad

Are there different fasteners I can use (longer depth?), or do I need to source a new lower grill Exclamation

I had a bit of trouble with the passenger-side. Basically, I wasn't getting the black-terrapodz-plastic flush enough against the body-of-the-van for the "clips" in the turn-signal-flasher to grab both of them and allow me to slide the turn-signal-flasher into place.

There were two reasons for me. The first was that the wires were getting in the way, so I made sure they didn't. The second was that I needed to get a little rough with the turn-signal-flasher and really give it a few smacks with the palm of my hand, in order to work both the edge of the black-terrapodz-plastic and the body-of-the-van into the "slots" or "clips" in the turn-signal-flasher. If I didn't do these two things, I had a heck of a time getting the screws to align.

Hope this helps.

My issue isn't on the signal side, its on the lower grill attachment point. Eric and I are now figuring out next steps... (I owe him some photos)...
