I'm glad that you guys (and Tam) like them.
Yes, those are forged 19" Fuchs. Those will not be on the van that these brakes are going onto. Those wheels are mine and will be going onto my own Vanagon project along with another set of Cayenne brakes.
True, smart shopping can find these calipers for relatively ("relatively" being a key word here) reasonable money, but the real costs add up very, very quickly with all of the incidentals like parking brake hardware, adapter brackets, mounting hardware, hoses, parking brake cables, etc. And that doesn't even include the actual design and assembly time. However, when you consider that it is very easy to drop over $4000.00 on a set of Stoptech front-only brakes for an Audi, the out-the-door cost for this kit seems more reasonable, especially when you consider the limited market. _________________ "Sometimes you have to build a box to think outside of." - Bruce (not Springsteen)

if 18" wheels are required for these brakes.
what the final PCD is
what the ideal ET for wheels would be

You know, I'm just really, really lucky to be able to work with a customer like this. It's a true pleasure to be able to create this kit for him, knowing that I have the license to really do it right.

The wheels that will be used on this particular van are Porsche Cayenne 18x8 ET57. This particular kit was built with this in mind, but there is some flexibility to allow for other, similar offsets. There is also the flexibility in future kits to allow the use of 5x112 wheels if someone wanted to go that route.
PCD for the Porsche wheels is 5x130.

I didn't know Porsche was using the same PCD on the Cayenne.

Well, the cool thing is that since everything is custom, we could even convert your truck to 5x114.3 in the process. It is truly refreshing to see such detail and thought in a project Christopher.
I just keep coming back to look through the first set of pictures.
Thanks for the renewed inspiration.
And with the 25mm swaybar so close...Man you have been blessed with some chi for furthering Vanagon performance.
Really looking forward to seeing these parts and some cutting edge driveline conversion packages mating.
I'm starting to feel a few US Race Taxis may be hitting the streets |

Yeah. I know who the manufacturer of the original wheels was. That style has become widely known as Porsche Fuchs, because it was developed and manufactured for Porsche. That style wheel wasn't used on other manufacturers cars! The style has been replicated by other companies other than Fuchs and they still call them "Fuchs" for the Porsche.
Also, Fuch would have been a subcontractor for Porsche. So therefore a "Porsche made Fuch".

You also mis quoted me there which is poor form. I was guessing on the size being 18" and them maybe being Porsche wheels or an aftermarket replica, not who the original manufacturer of Fuchs was. Need to read the full text quoted and the question if was answering. |

Slightly OT, but is the handle on the tap holder threaded?
Neat tip. I imagine one could use a drill press in the same manner?

There are no plans to change the master cylinder or booster at this time. We will address that if we have to after everything else is installed and tested.

Yeah, Bluto already answered, but it is a tap guide. And yes, you can definitely use one in a drill press. You just have to center the hole under your guide, place the guide in the chuck and drop it down onto the top of the tap. You put pressure on it to compress the spring and then start your tapping procedure. I'm also working on another internal parking brake system that uses parts from a few different makes.
