|

I am wanting to run a alpine head unit that has a 100 watt internal amp and I want to run just 4 speakers. I have never owned a bug I've had some rails but they didn't have audio.
Previous owner had a radio wired with some speakers but he took the radio out after it quit playing cds and decided to not replace it My question is can I run my head lights and a stereo and a phone charger all at once with no issue on a standard generator? Is there any modification I need to do to anything? Can I help the system by running a secondary smaller battery? I have a new honda battery sitting around it is a smaller battery out of a civic but it is new. I was wondering if I ran it next to the bigger battery would it assist the extra load ?
Thanks in advance.

If you look at the wiring diagram it will show a radio on the far right circuit breaker. You don't need to run an extra battery unless you plan on running a lot of power to a custom sound system. If it's jut a basic wiring it will be fine. The phone charger would be as equivalent as using a cigar lighter. _________________ 1966 Beetle

Unless you are adding extra amplifiers.. you wont have any issues.. and wont need an extra battery.
Generators dont charge much at low idle.. So unless you are idling around.. it will be charging.
Now if you have have SUPER HIGH wattage lights and fog lights and are already stressing the max capabilites of the generator, then yes. you may need to consider extra battery... or an alternator conversion.
Most VW generators are rated for 30 amps max..
If you have a stock lighting system .. the 100w radio may add 8-10 amps max (if that at all) at full use volume.

a 100 watt stereo will actually only put out about 12-15 watts at normal volume.adding a second battery will put a strain on a low apmerage alternator, not sure if that applies to a generator. _________________ Mario De Leon
