I ordered mine on January 2nd. I've been communicating with Roswitha Hendel. She (?) tells me it now takes 12 weeks because a 4 person operation has now been whittled down to just a one person operation.

It's really pathetic, to be frank.

Mine was ordered and paid for on December the 27th and I too have had the "12 weeks" excuse.

Clearly there is enough demand, paid-for demand, to warrant additional resources behind this?

Good Morning Everyone,

I might as well add my story about delays to the mix.
I requested a birth certificate for a friend's '73 Super Convertible on December 12, last year as a Christmas gift (silly me). The payment on my credit card was approved immediately and I received the confirmation email from Roswitha Hendel. That was the last I heard.

On Tuesday February 26, I sent a note requesting the status of the birth certificate and in this morning's (Monday March 03) email, all I got was the laconic reply of "Sorry, I can't say".

I'll give it a bit more time and then take the matter up with the credit card issuer.

Two things to add to previous conversations:
1 - Back in in the "good old days" of May 1983, there was no charge for the information. I got a nice letter on VOLKSWAGENWERK stationary with all of the particulars for my '57 Sedan.
2 - How is the current certificate sent? In an envelope of some sort, or a tube?

I'll try to update this as things happen.

Placed my order in January.

received this email yesterday.

"Thank you for order a birth-certificate.

In principle the Stiftung AutoMuseum Volkswagen is pleased to research the data of your old Volkswagen from the vehicle data base and draw up a certificate.

However, we are not able to research the data of your car because the micro fiche regarding the chassis number of your car is crumbling and illegible.

So we will send you your money back.

We hope for your understanding, thank you."

Now that sucks!

looking for some input...

If you were to sell your VW, would you include your birth certificate with it?

I would. I would also include any other info or paperwork I had that pertains to it. It's the cars history. If the car is gone what am I going to do with the bc?

I would if they wanted it but I have also not included it because I had my name on it. I did a copy.

They just suck! It used to take 3 weeks until last year 2013 but starting late 2013 everything went wrong with them ! Don't know y but they taker forever and don't give accurate data as they r too lazy to translate from German and too stupid to know what they r talking about! It seems that the ones working on it r not vw experts cos they just could translate whatever! My question is, who gave them the archives and how? R they the only source for such treasure of info?!

Just sent her a thank you note and to let her know I finally received. Got back an automatic reply saying she'll be out of the office until April 22. Guess the rest of you are waiting even longer! Rolling Eyes

Received confirmation Feb 25th and still waiting. Hopefully I'll get it before Oktoberfest or that may delay it another 6 months.

I got a 12-14 week time frame as well, not happy about it at all, but what do you do? I'm in a position where I kind of want/need mine because my car was built Oct/Nov of 1959 and I'm almost sure it's a 1959 only color. There are no colors for 1960 that even come close unless it's a convertible color, which I doubt. I want to paint my car, but I want to wait to confirm the color and I'm hoping the BC will tell me what interior my car came with so I know which route to go with paint and interior. I'm still 10 weeks away from the 14 week quote and I'm not sure I want to wait that long to order stuff for my car. I'm half tempted on cancelling my order, but I really want to know about my car. lol

Unless you're in a rush, just be patient. It's a matter of waiting, not a matter of getting ripped off.

I'm not worried about getting ripped off, just can't believe they upped the price from $35 to $70 and the wait time is 3x's longer than what it used to be. I'm patient, but 3+ months is a long time to wait for a piece of paper. Lol
