No scientific measurement on my end, but although I believe it had an impact on noise level, I didn't notice anything on fuel economy.

Let us know if you notice otherwise.

I've been toying with the idea of making a cover that had a solar panel integrated into it to keep the batteries topped up.

I'm planning on something like this too, with a thin solar panel for starting battery. House battery will get a dedicated large solar panel.

How is the noise reduction for you? Did you get at least a tank full with the lower covers before doing this to see if there is a difference between the two mods?
