I'm planning on it! I planned on it last year too...But I had a chance to take a customer's westy to Vancouver! It was a 5000km coast to coast trip I couldn't pass up. Trip of a life time, paid for by someone other than me.

Blizzard today! 50cm. I finished my work early sent the boys home and decided to use the solitude to finish a job in the waiting.
Remember a few weeks ago I bought a couple brand new transmissions? The only catch was they were 5.43-1 R&P, so I felt it necessary to re-gear before I install it in my rig. So a call to Weddle and I received a .70 4th and a 1.18 3rd gear set. With my tire combination I'll be around 2850rpm at 100kph. I do have a R&P for the front diff too, just need another snow day!
It was a good time to install a de-coupler too.

So the kitchen is working!
Today I wired the water pump, ran a drain and a propane line to the stove. Boiled my first kettle of water today! Now if only the snow and salt would leave so I can out and play.

Hi Jeff. Great work you are doing. Do you have some pictures of the kitchen with inside shots? I really like the size. I was wondering if you have the dimensions or a drawing that would help me or others to replicate the unit?
Thanks again for the pictures. _________________ ________________________

Hi there,
The kitchen unit is 22"d x 26"w by 34" high. The plans were on a piece of graph paper Jeff gave me. I think I still have it!
I used the dimensions to fit Jeff's plan but we modified a few things along the way. Any questions I'd be more than happy to answer.

Brian,
thanks for the reply. if you have any pictures of the units inside, i am curious to see the workings.
I would like to make one of these for myself, and hope to have enough info to take to a cabinet maker for me.
How are the panels joined?
i hope i can make my unit connect into the jump seat bar and floor.
Thanks _________________ ________________________

Well I got to see this van up close and personal this past weekend. It is indeed a dream van; and the nicest Syncro I have had the good fortune to lay my eyes on. This is it in front…
Since someone here made some disparaging remarks by PM a while back, I think Jeff has been reluctant to post much more. And who can blame him -- why subject yourself to abuse from some person you don't even know?
Too bad, because Jeff is one of the most knowledgable and passionate (when it comes to VW vans) people around, and we are lucky to have him close by. Example: Last year there was a woman travelling here from BC, some kind of documentary trip. She ran into trouble with her transmission, and her funds were fully consumed by another shop (out-of-province) who botched the repair job. So, Jeff and his crew jumped in and got the van back on the road with a new transmission, at NO CHARGE. Then he drove the van cross country (and Canada is a very big country), to return the van to its owner.
Just this past weekend, and today, Jeff repaired at least three vans that limped in to the Westy gathering here. Timwhy, who arrived by flatbed; pigryder, having to hold his transmission in 4th gear, and a couple from Quebec with a bad rear wheel bearing. Like he had nothing else to do already.
Anyway, great van and a great family that owns it.
RonC
P.S. In case you think I am sucking up -- no-one works on my vans but me. Which is why mine is the bit of embarrassment near the back of that lineup... |

I have bought parts off Jeff and he and Shawn have been great to deal with. Had a hiccup with the order and they straitened it out right away no hesitation or complaints, great customer service. He even manufactured a part to solve a problem I had at no charge! Will buy from them again (it's nice having a Canadian vendor) if I was not on the other side of the country I would have had Jeff working on my van in a flash. So I hope Jeff does not let one anti-social SOB ruin thesamba for him, his contribution to the Vanagon world is appreciated. _________________ 1987 1.6 TD (JX) 1.9 TD (AAZ) Syncro Transporter Tintop with front and back lockers - Escorial Green. ...don't feel too bad Ron. On the embarrassment meter, I'm at the level where they wouldn't even tell me there was a parade happening, obviously for fear I'd join them...
