When checking the AFM I found that the allen adjusting screw to be 13 turns out.
Could this be the reason that it failed aircare on idle?

I also found the plugs to be white on the electrodes

The van runs good otherwise
Any help
Thanks

Mine (84 Digijet) appeared to be untouched when I removed the plug -- it was screwed all the way in.

Decided to screw it in to the stated 1 1/2 turns out from the bottom, no noticeable change in engine, took her for a drive and still runs good
Hope I haven't changed the emissions.

If you are looking for better emissions numbers, you need to have the exhaust analyzed while making changes.

No clue.
I don't own any brand new 1.9 AFMs to check.

Emissions can be tricky. OP, do you have a print out of the fail sheet? If so, post it up with a picture so we can see. Chances are you many have to address other components beyond messing with the AFM. Have you checked your O2, throttle body, cracks in the boot? etc.

I've checked all vacuum lines, injector o rings, charcoal canister, throttle body and rubber boot but not the o2 sensor
For the emissions sheet, please check my other post...... failed aircare, bad idle.
I thought I had found the idle fail problem with the AFM screw being way out, that's why I asked if this could be the problem
I have booked a VW shop for next Wed to have them check with their sniffer and make adjustments etc.
Thanks
Mike
