So...I'm stuck here. How do these wiring harness pieces fit through the holes so I can remove the rear hatch? As you might know, I'm re-painting...
This one is too big for the passenger side hole:
The pic is of the wiring that connects to the rear wiper motor. On the same lines, how do I pull off the wash fluid hose...just pull? Maybe cut it off?
Here is the defrogger (yes, defrogger) connection on the drivers side, same issue:
Thoughts? I've tried to pull the connector off of the wires...Is there a trick to that I'm missing? I'm pretty resourceful, but this has me stumped and I'm not interested in breaking more brittle plastic if I can help it...Maybe I'll just cut all the wires at their respective connectors and get rid of them all together?

| Get a terminal tool or make one to remove the plastic connector from the terminal end. |

If I recall correctly, the connectors are in the van, you need to pull the headliner at the hatch.
pull the door welting, and the fabric tape from the flange, if you pull the headliner down you'll see the connectors and a ground screw, in the door frame. It all comes off with the hatch.
While you have the hatch off, grind one of the boot holes to match the other. ....one side has a bigger hole,and that boot is still available
I don't recall which side  ...I think passengers is smaller and NLA
Anyhow then you can install new boots and have easier access for wiring. |

Yes, passenger side boot is NLA, so is driver side boot.

Hey thanks Insyncro...I figured they came off some how. I was able to use one of my picks to disengage the tab that holds the terminals on.
Also, thanks Goffoz for the tip on the boot.
Does anyone know the part number or where to get them? Maybe I'll call BD on Monday...

Wow, talk about timing. I will be pulling my rear hatch to paint in a week or so. Timely thread - thanks for the info! Wolfram Grey here, as well!

I'll be in Europe this summer. How do you order stuff from Classic VW. I could bring some with me, small enough.
I tried here but the part number did not turn in any results. The other problem is both the driver and the passenger side boots have the same part number but they are different.

I call them and place the orders.
Not sure if they have an actual brick and mortar retail environment or not.
The second reason I call is that the inventory changes often and new parts become available before the site gets updated.
To make the shipping worthwhile for me, I make extremely large orders and have them package it for freight not parcel shipping. |
