|
|
I have a '79 super vert in need of a hood and possibly a front clip. Everything I'm finding is for the standard beetle so far. I'd like to expand my search criteria to include any/all years that would fit.
Does anyone know what that might include? I was thinking '73 forward, but wasn't sure and I don't know if there is a difference between the coupe and vert hoods.
Thanks! |

Never mind. Did enough searching to answer my own question.
Looks like '73-'79 it is and no others. |

73-74 Super fits but they are cosmetically different around the handle. _________________ Quick little bug, you got a Porsche motor in that?

I found someone local with a '74 hood and bumper for a good price. Headed up next week to grab them.
Slight cosmetic difference is fine as there have already been some changes done during the last restore and I'm not looking for a year perfect restore at this point. Good fit is the priority.
Now my biggest hurdle will be finding a front clip from a donor car I can cut out. |

Not excactly sure when the new pattern hood arrived ('75?), but they are interchangeable. For the 79, it should definetely have the new, squared off shape of the fluting. In my head at least, replaced parts that are newer than the original look OK, but older parts somehow look out of place on newer cars. On the other hand, most of the original rounded off hoods of the early design have been smashed by now, and replaced with the new design, so you could be lucky. _________________ 1973 1303S w sunroof Click to view image
