Hey guys, I've been a samba user for some time, but this is my first time really posting. I have owned many bugs and recently a a 1960 single cab. I recently traded my dove blue single cab for this 1959 dove blue bus. I don't know much about it, hoping you guys could help me out! I don't know what camper windows I need, or what interior it might have had. Also wondering if this was a camper that was converted by the owner or by a company? I am also taking it down to original paint, through the six or so layers of paint. Real pain in the butt, but I'm liking how it looks. I appreciate all feedback and any help anyone can offer. Looking forward to this build and my first topic.

pretty nice, looks like a pretty straight panel.

check your vin numbers, maybe it will tell us a little more.

good news is that you can put any camper interior in it you want.

Thanks! It is very straight with very little rust. M code is not on the bus but the vin is there, if I get a birth certificate, will they be able to give me the m code and info on the possible camper conversion company?

Really hoping someone will be able to identify the window mounting holes and know something about it.

Good eye! The PO cut out the recess for the Spare tire and covered it with a bus long section door panel.. Not sure why, there's no rust anywhere near there. But it was done, so I will be welding in a new spare recess. Hope I spelt that right.

Not much there. Why do you think it is a camper?

I think it is because it has camper windows cut into the sides and cargo doors... and I suppose I just really want a camper. I would love to find out that it is a Easy camper, sundial, etc. But if is just panel that someone cut holes into and threw camper windows in, I would embrace that as well Very Happy

I like flip seat westy's...I could never do one justice out of a panel! thanks for the input though! truly appreciated! keep it coming!

It was almost certainly turned into a camper by someone, at some point, but afaik, there is no way to ascertain from a VIN only what OTW camper company might have done it.

Far more knowledgeable camper folks here, than me, tho....

Thought the vin wasn't enough, but wasn't sure. Thanks for the clarification! Hopefully one of the samba camper experts can determine from small things like the window mounting holes drilled. It looks like it could be maybe hehr or jalousie windows with a little chrome visor over it?

It looks like it would take HEHR camper windows like these.

cool bus.

Why not convert it back to a dove blue panel. Looks pretty rust free, could be a very nice bus.

a decent 58 dove blue panel would be great (campers are cool too, don't get me wrong).

keep those pictures coming

Thanks! Yeah it would make a great panel and I was thinking about it for a while, but I have always wanted a camper, so I decided, shoot I will use the holes already there

I believe so as well! I believe hehr windows with the small chrome sun visor on the top of each window. Does anyone repop those windows or the visors? Or does any one know what kind of camper they came on?

I don't think you need to be too concerned about the exact model of camper. To make a proper replica out of parts would cost a ton ton ton. Make whatever you want. You have a great bus to start with.

HEHR windows were used by many camper and trailer makers including Airstream I believe. A complete set could be hard to find and they seem to be getting pricey.

Good point! I can Just look at other great examples and build one to my liking. If it were obvious I was going to try and rebuild it to what ever company did it. But it seems vague since the bus is so bare. I think you are right. I think I will build a camper to my liking with an era correct look. Thanks for the input Cool

You aren't kidding I'm having a real hard time finding those windows I like, like the ones you have in this picture here----> https://www.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/312334.jpg

Perhaps I can Get what camper windows I can find for the time being and buy the ones I want as I find them.

How about interior, any suggestions on a few good build threads on this site for Diy custom camper interiors for a split? I would love to try and build one for my bus.
