I have a seven passenger, but I have removed the middle row and am researching how to mount a table in this configuration. After a lot of time searching and not finding much, I was hoping that you folks could show me what you've done. So if you have a table in, but don't have the full Westy or Weekender setup, let's see them! _________________ '73 Thing

I reversed the middle seat and put it all the way forward and was able to bolt down the front of it into the seat track.
I was able to get a table out of weekender in a "Pull Your Part" salvage yard near Cleveland.
I didn't want to put the whole plastic wall in so I just cut out the table section and then cut out my vinyl covered side.
There is a mounting/support brace that goes under/on the inside of the window ledge and this runs from the "B" pillar back to the "C" pillar.
The hinge for the table mounts to this.
When I cut out the "table section from the plastic wall I cut it right on the edge of the table depression.
In hindsight I should have cut it out with a 1/4" to 1/2" lip on the vertical so I could have put some of that black door trim on it to make it look better.
It worked okay when you get it bolted down securely.
The bench seat worked okay for storage under it. The drawback was that the tops of the bench seat sometimes prevented the driver's and passenger seat from reclining back because the bench seat was in the upright position. I had to have them in their normal "tilted forward" position to get full adjustment out of the drivers/passenger seats.
The negative thing was that the table was a little too high for comfortable computer use.

Not exactly a table, more like a counter/storage system. Still a work in progress.
Our van is a passenger and only gets used for roadtrips, usually my wife and myself. We needed some sort of storage and this is what we came up with.
The totes fit snugly enough that they can't escape but we can still remove them. My rollup table stows in the top drawer area. _________________ 86 syncro CHC, NorthWesty subbie 2.5, decoupler, locker, custom interior, 225/75r16 Duratrack's on CLK's, Toyo cabin heater, ARB fridge, 300w Zamp Solar, Gowesty bumpers/skid/rails, Fiama awning

AWESOME! Two questions:
1. Can you provide a pic or detail about where you got your table top and how it is mounted to the leg?
2. Where did you get that awesome, super-compact jump seat? (A Land Rover Disco, maybe??) Any more info on that? |

I considered, for a brief moment, attaching an engine mount to the table leg. Then I went back to it using my engine winch 2x6s as the table - I don't want this engine to get too comfortable in here.

1. Table is home made. 3/4 ply with 2"x1/8" aluminum edging.
table swivel is homemade I can post pics on the weekend.
2.Jump seat is from a Landy..good guess. I made it so it can be removed and used outside...theres a few pics and an explanation on the forum somewhere
let me know if you need details |

What kind of swivel are you using under the table in order to take the tabletop from vertical to horizontal? _________________ '73 Thing

The tilt hinge, with spung locking pin, and the leg, came off a cheap rolling bed table unit I picked up at a yardsale. exact fit for the westy bracket
like this
The swivel top is a modification I did and added a friction clutch.
heres a old pic..I'll add a better one soon
[img][/img][/img]
swivel and friction clutch. table spins 360, pin locks 90 tilts 180..friction clutch locks any position...good for parking on inclines
[img][/img]
How it sits between the seats, excuse the dust...been getting busy

Love the Westy table! Could be made to work between the jump seats too with a second pivot point!
Call me the safety police all you want but I am not so much a fan of kbeefy's wood cabinet. Looks like a bit of a suicide machine for 2 of the 3 bench seat passengers in any kind of accident. I would want it shorter to give more clearance to the bench seat passengers and make sure it was secured and robustly cross-braced. The design does look like it would hold most of it's contents in place in a front or rear impact accident though. Also looks like it might interfere with the Z-Bed?
Just my opinion. _________________ ---------------------------------------------------

Bumped from the dead! this thread helped inspire me to make my 7-passenger livable with some great ideas so I thought I'd add mine to the bundle in hopes of helping someone else.
I found this table and mount on ebay- search for "lagun mount." It's designed to be on a boat, so it tightens securely, no rattles, it's very strong. Also, it all comes out in about 10 seconds, and the cabinet comes out in about two minutes, then I've got my whole interior back.

Nice one, can you post a pic of the mount or a link to the one you used? |

Sure, here it is: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lagun-RV-Swivel-Adjustable...EstaFiwUZQ
they also offer it without the table, so if you have a table you like, or want a westy table for that OE feel you can do that too. I went with the largest table they offer. |

I have always like the idea of a fold down table - weekender style. Found the plastic interior panels last year, but alas no table. I am budget conscience and like to design and build so I figured I would give it a go ....
After lots of measuring, cutting, recutting gluing and screwing, I have my first prototype.
Working on the finishing and installing. On the first test fit, it does fit nicely. |
