The spring on the lever holding the clutch cable at the back on the gearbox has broken and I need to replace it, but I just can't get the lever to come off its spindle.
Please tell me how.
This is what it looks like, with the new spring on top. (Not my best photo - sorry.)

I Take the external snap ring off and use a battery cable puller, just a small 2 jaw puller, to remove the arm. A little oil helps too.
Here's one here

Assuming that you've already removed the snap-ring, try using some PB Blaster (or other penetrating oil) and then tap the arm a bit with a hammer and try prying it off, or use a gear puller on it. If that doesn't work, heat the area around the shaft up with a propane torch...it should slip right off then. _________________ '63 Ragtop (current)

Thanks for the advice. I've been eyeing one of those gear pullers for a while but buy tools only when I actually need them. Today is the day, then. I'll let you know how it went. _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

I put some WD-40 on and after a short wait gave it a light tap with a rubber mallet and it came off like magic. Thanks. Game over. _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly
