I'm glad I'm not the only one that was/is perplexed now. Very Happy

I think its been estabilsh its at least 1976 and newer.

From a 1976 manual, (Note no white ring around the center as in 75)

1976 Canadian manual is the only reference avaialble.
Also not the lack of ATF, but addition of EGR with the middle reference photo.

i have the same style speedometer, but mine has a vw stamp on it followed by 35/71/E. it also has 4 77 stamped above that. it was in my 63 beetle when i got it, so i'm not sure what it came out of originally. hope this helps.

I'm thinking it might have come from a 1200 late-model Export to the UK. They were really very basic, with pre-67 styling.(I have never seen one of these cars in the US though).

There's a few of those Euro 1200s getting around here.
They were very bare bones but most still had fuel gauges.

I *think* it is from a 1976 "Super Bug" from South Africa which isn't a Super in the sense that it has front struts even though it did have a curved windshield.

Those mutant South African 1600S just used a regular RHD 1303 dash and speedo

The 825 refers to 825 revolutions per mile.
