This past weekend I bought my first ragtop car. Its an original paint and interior 1960 Mango Green ragtop. I bought the car out of Fargo, ND and is now on its way to my house in Fort Worth, Tx. Im excited to get it home so I can hit the streets with the top back.

WOW!

Lots of original, stock bugs are really showing up lately! I love, love, love the originality of that bug and it's a rag top to boot!

More pictures, especially the pans and engine!

You going to keep that baby stock and original (I hope!).

I didn't get to see it in person but the seller was very honest about the problems that the car has. The pans are good but there is some rust that will need to be repaired on the heater channels. IT has the original motor and trans but the motor is too far gone.

Im keeping it just the way it is, but I will replace the front bumper with a better one. I think I will pull the motor and tranny out and put them up and put a later model drive train in. That way if I ever decide to sell the car, ill have the original parts.

Glad you're keeping the bug original! Hopefully the heater channels will only need mild repairs and you can just touch up those areas w/new paint.

Why not overhaul the tranny and engine in it to keep it super original?

Damn, I love all these stock original cars that are showing up also, it gives me hope!
I saw that car for sale on here a couple of days ago, and stopped on the add to check it out. I read about the issues also, but dug that it was a matching numbers car. It has a ton of potential, so congrats!

I to am glad to hear you are keeping it stock. That's 2 in one day here on the samba! That also gives me hope! Very Happy

If thought about going back stock but we recently sold an all original 64 beetle locally that we drove everywhere and it's down right dangerous driving that thing. I have an all numbers matching 68 that I drive everywhere and this bug will be no exception. I want a drive train that's reliable and safe in traffic.

Like I said though, I'm keeping everything I change so that I can put it back to stock.

Not sure that it will make it here in time for me to get it driving by then. It will be there for sure if I can swing it.

Nice score, Mango it one of my favorite VW colors. Interior looks to be in great shape, Pee Wee is making me a little nervous peeking from the back seat. Very Happy

glad you like it Keith! The tranny shifted good. There is nothing wrong with that. I think you could put the 36 back together. everything still moves in the case, so I believe the case is still good. I'm not exactly sure what happened with the motor. As you see it is how I got it, so that's all I know about that. Take lots of pictures and take good care of it! It's a sweet car.

I'm actually going to hang on to the stock stuff but not run it. I have a new 1776 and I just bought a FF tranny from rancho to put in it. Only thing I will need to change is the front tranny mount.
