I did use the new bolts suppled with the boot kit. They have a round head and use the 12 pt allen. |
Be careful thinking these are 12 pt allen. They are really a 12 pt triple square.
I purchased a couple of these. One for home, one for the Syncro tool kit.
The extension makes it easier to slip on passed the rubber boot.

There is no long any torque on your broken bolt. If it is sticking out noticeably from the flange so that you can grab it, you may well be able to just turn it out in seconds with your fingers. |
Yeah, I'm sorry I put the rest of the bolts in. I should have pulled it apart as soon as I broke the bolt. Live and learn! |

I bought the tool from VC. It is shorter, but I used an extension. Im sure it is the proper tool for the bolts. It fit in the slots just fine. |

With luck the broken off part of the bolt will be loose in its hole and won't take all that much to remove. |
Right on! I pulled the axle today, reached in and unscrewed the broken piece of bolt. I just finished getting the axle back on and torqued properly. The job is done, at least until I do the other axle which has boots that are cracked but not yet torn. They look like this:
