In the spirit of giving everyone plenty of time to prepare, Mark your calendars and prepare your ride for a flogging.....
Dates: August 14th-17th, 2014
Waldersee Farms, Sheridan, Oregon USA
http://www.northwestmogfest.com
NorthWest MogFest is a yearly “family reunion” for Unimog owners, a chance to meet old friends and make new ones, all while enjoying these vehicles in the Oregon sunshine. Although it started as a Unimog event NWMF invites all vehicles of european ancestry, so if you own a Pinzgauer,Volvo C303, Vanagon Syncro. or other continental off-road equipment and would like to join this private party, please contact us for more information. (you can reply to the above URL for an invitation, or, just chime in on this thread for direction).

The Schaudenfraude

If you are on the fence, here are a few previous years threads to entice you. There is always a large contingent of WetWesties and 2wd vans in the upper orchard, and, even if you do not have a Syncro, you WILL get to ride in them and experience what this habit is all about. There is a great river to swim in and meals available onsite for a modest fee. If you can only make one event this year, make this one folks, you will not be sorry!

Hello to all,
Emilie and I are pleased to have all the Vanagons/Syncros/Westies as well as the earier Type 2s and the Eurovans at NWMF each year. Our first vehicle of our married life was a 1963 Splittie and the vehicle that drew Em my direction was my 1973 Thing (the first orange one to come to Texas). That girl had excellent taste...in cars at least.
Just an FYI for all the 4WD VW fans. Look for an original 1943 Typ166 at NWMF 2014. Picture that one running up and down the river. Dates are August 14th-17th, 2014.
Take care...one and all.

This year we will have a special commemeration of our fallen Comrade Daryl Christensen, a Pillar of the VW Syncro Community
If you have any ideas, please share them and we will make them happen. This event and this community was near and dear to his heart and he will be sorely missed by us all!!! _________________ Happiness=Portland, Oregon in the rearview mirror! |

I have to try to get someone to work Saturday and Sunday for me. Luckily, those are preferred days for shift swaps in my business...people will gladly trade two of their weekday 12 hour shifts for two weekend 12 hour shifts. My schedule is not printed out that far so I forecasted it forward 3 months last night. _________________ Happiness=Portland, Oregon in the rearview mirror! |

Yes!! This event is really fun. I look forward to it every year.
That is cool there will something for Daryl. Hopefully more than just a moment of silence. Perhaps a dedication or naming of something? _________________ '85 Syncro Westy |

Hoping to maybe name the Trail Run after him or do an obstacle course in his honor. I have not talked to Eric or anyone else about this idea, it is organic at this point so, please, chime in with your thoughts and ideas. Perhaps we could have a yearly award for the most mechanically hosed syncro. Lets brainstorm some ideas. _________________ Happiness=Portland, Oregon in the rearview mirror! |

Bumping this up to the first page.
Received an email from Matt Christensen's wife Erica advising that she and Matt will be coming to NWMF this year and wondering if there was anything they could provide to assist in the Memorial ceremony for Daryl. I asked her to bring the photo collage board and perhaps the video presentation if there was one so that we could display it prominently up by the auction/raffle table. If anyone else had some sort of memorial that they wanted to share, that would be awesome. Curtis, 2Ply, any others?
Want to get some input and ideas for doing something special for Daryl this year and going forward. My initial thought was to dedicate the Friday Trail Run to him. I will be working Friday and will not be able to make it to the event until late Friday night or early Saturday morning, so I need some input and help to get the ball rolling on this. I know how much Daryl loved the Friday Trail Runs and think this would be a fitting memorial. What are your thoughts on this?
I emailed Jim Malloy and Tristar Eric about this as well. Please chime in with your ideas so we can get this planned.
Thanks,

23 days to go, are you ready?
We're doing a Friday beach run again if anyone is interested in joining.
9am departure, drive to Pacific city, beach driving, lunch at our favorite bakery, and about 2pm-3pm return.

We should have a syncro driving course / contest like the halflingers have. Eric what do you think? Can you bring the poles and setup a course? I will help with the setup but want to drive in it also. _________________ Syncronize it!
