Thats what i was thinking! Is that thing gunked up or what?! ha
Ill get some more pics tomorrow, there seems to be more to all these engine tins than I thought. Kinda strange why they would use so many.. |
Just pretend the tins are like coolant hoses on your watercooled cars. Actually, that's exactly how they work, and that's why I'm happy to help you not "spill your coolant" everywhere. And VW didn't put unnecessary parts on their economy cars...
A pressureized car wash or even a pressure washer with some engine degreaser will work wonders on your underside. It looks like regular neglected VW oil mist plus ten years of sitting in a dusty barn or something. Clean engines are fun engines to work on. |
Ha ok now im getting it. I cant wait to get it out of the car. It will certainly be getting a good wash and some engine paint/ powdercoat where applicable. |

Don't know how you are intending to use your rig, but if you are going to be going off the pavement much, I would ditch the enlarged sump. To vulnerable to rock damage in my book. |
So are you saying the oil sump is not OEM? I had intended on using it for camping mostly. I will however be putting BFG's on it and possibly some lift spindles. |

That doesnt sound safe. I would imagine the rubber may melt. |

ITC's are great carbs, and should work fine on a stock motor, but consider Kadrons. They are stupid simple to set up and tune, and once dialed in, they are very stable. Personally I think the best place to get them from is the Kaddie Shack [http://www.shop.kaddieshack.com/]. If you call them, give them the specs of your engine, they'll set them all up for you. You can even order your new heads from them and they'll make sure everything is matched.
Their pricing is competitive, probably even better because of the support they provide.
Good luck.

You had me at "lift spindles"...
I'm going to have to monitor this thread as I intend to do the same thing to my '70 bay. Already sitting on 27" General Grabbers... |
