my short and sweet highlights:
GoWesty Bouncy house. Could not get the girl to do it, and the boy got pummeled by some older kids and got out, but, it was an incredible setup of this beast. Thanks so much for bringing it out, and, thank you for your contributions to this event. It was great to see you guys back here this year.
Last year it was Tom and Deb from Halsey Automotive that I finally got out to Sheridan......Good times, and, you guys were there in spirit this year.
This year, it was Kubelman Willie Mortimer. He had a great time.
The Kubels thunder got stolen by the Type 166, or did it
Here is his hatpin, OG WWII stock to go along with the Kubelwagen .
John W with the 181, Willie M and with the Kubelwagen, and Darrel V with the 1943 Type 166 Schwimmenwagen. Just INCREDIBLE.
Rolled through NWMF and headed down to Newport the long and lazy way, then ended up sleeping at the Castle of Kubleman Willie Mortimer. It was incredible to be able to sleep so soundly in the cool sea air with the sea lions squacking and the jetty horn beacon thingy sounding every 30 seconds. I will post more soon.
Thank you Malloy's and all who make this event happen.
After a great night sleeping off a sunburn at the garagemajal(sorry Otmar ) Of Kubelman Willie in Newport, with the sounds of the Newport Jetty warning horn/beacon every 30 seconds and the sea lions chatting away all night, I have got to say, this was one of my favorite NWMF's ever. Short and Sweet, cool morning without any trouble getting out of my van. Van ran great, new transmission is excellent, and, though I did not do any major wheeling, I did enough to give my old friend Willie the most hardcore ride of his life in a van. I will try to get some of his pics to post.
Great to see DillonK, Willie, Curtis L, Colin W, Eric D, HarryW, Josh M, Hugo, GoWesty crew, John W, Stacey, as well as so many others. Sorry I could not stay longer. Back to work! _________________ Happiness=Portland, Oregon in the rearview mirror!

Would have been worth the 24 hours of driving right there for me... I would have licked them. Then asked if I could drive them. And then ask to drive the swimmer in the river... _________________ 1986 Canadian Syncro Westy TDI - 1989 Syncro Single Cab - 2001 Audi S4 - 1981 VW Caddy ABA - 1980 VW Caddy EV - 1973 VW T-181 |

HJ, that is my friend in Newport that, if I would have had the time to drive south with you on our December trip, we would have stopped in on. His father captured a Kubel at the end of the war, and that Kubel, though the body is a Skunkewerks Kubel, it has a majority of REAL KUBEL parts inside. I woke this morning in his driveway admiring the most incredible personal collection of vintage VW's (the 52 split bug was a fave)that I have ever been so lucky to drool over. I got to fondle the Kubelwagen transmission that is currently out of it. It is just amazing. You should see it driving at night with all of its LED upgrades.
Oh, and, I think, I bought a 69 Ghia _________________ Happiness=Portland, Oregon in the rearview mirror! |

This year was my first time at NWMF, and even though the Mister & I were only there for a short overnight, we had a great time! I parked my 2WD in the upper orchard for relatively quiet camping, though the Mr. insisted that Ollie could've made it down through the lower field, no problem. Next year we'll arrive earlier, and see about camping near others in Clan Samba.
We had a blast seeing (and riding in!) all the Mogs and Syncros, and most especially, meeting people in this most excellent community. So a shout out to Tony, Lance, Dave M., Josh, Matt, Willie, and plenty of others whose names I've forgotten. Biggest thanks to the Molloys and all who contribute to putting on such an event. Y'all are a welcoming crowd, and I'm very much looking forward to future gatherings! _________________ I'm pullin' into town on the interstate, I got a steel train in the rain.

As Dave is always pushing the envelope, I thought he was laying up for a nose manual! |
