Camping in the '65. Early style awning recovered with Sunbrella. Last years addition of the pop top makes camping even better. Next summer I plan on having the Heilite done as well.

I have been waiting to take a trip to get some photos and contribute to this thread. We went out to a local campground this week for two nights. We got a storm with three inches of rain the first night ensuring a muddy campsite for the rest of the stay. I used the duct tape windshield seal trick to keep items on my parcel shelf from floating away. The clear tube is a set of Harbor Freight solar rope lights.
Difficult to start a fire when your fire ring looks like this... lol
Eventually things dried up a little.
We use an old carpenters tool chest as a kitchen chuck box. All of my kitchen stuff fits neatly inside including my cook stove. It has some drawers and compartments for smaller items. The dining fly is an old canvas unit I found in a vintage camp trailer. We made the poles out of 2"x2"s with 60penny nails, the ropes are Harbor freight high visibility (allegedly glow in the dark) 5\16" nylon ropes. I would love a modern ez up but the tarp is more my style, old fashioned, over weight, and difficult.... _________________ J.W. Morris

Tip # 101.
If you HAVE TO tape your windshield use un-stretched electrical tape. It even comes in two inch wide rolls.
Why?
Because when you peel it off it will leave very little glue and it is not stronge enough to pull off paint. Unlike duct tape that will pull paint off even after a short time and if you leave it on for a few weeks, months on in hot sunny weather it will leave all the glue stuck to your bus making a mess to try and clean off. _________________ Prosit!

Hey Fish I think you also posted up Tip#102, duct tape to remove paint. I am off to the hardware store, for a few rolls of duct tape instead of all the other methods I have tried for paint removal. |

The windshield cover is on my wish list I like the idea of screens on the front slider windows. Ultimately this winter I am going to have to bite the bullet and pull out the windshields, finally facing the rusty horrors hidden beneath my crusty seals.

The duct tape was just what I had available, you know drivers side cup holder... the electrical tape is an awesome idea, I have never seen 2" at the store, but I will defiantly snag a roll if I find it! _________________ J.W. Morris

Tip #103 - Use 'blue' painters tape. Seals edges great, leaves NO residue. |

Haven't posted many pics of my Westy, but since we took it out on a couple camping trips this year I figured I would share a couple. Had to take it over a couple passes, which went quite well! Can't wait to take it out more next year!

How is the fit / finish? I got the rear hatch screen from them and expected a bit better for the price. Kind of want that front setup, but may just go with front curtains... Even sent them an email afterwords they never responded to... _________________ -Adam

If they are still like they used to be they fit so perfect that the door has to be one inch from closing before you can slip over the keeper pocket. Don't ever open your front doors with it in place, either, as the geometry of the doors makes the perimeter distance too great and you will wreck the cover. |
