Did you contact the local police dept? Give them a clear description. Also call up any autobody places that would take the bus and restore. They may have it in their shop.
Check salvage yards, towing companies, etc.
Sadly, with buses sticking out like a sore thumb on the street, he may just horde it or sell it under the table somewhere. If I was your friend, I would look for a month or so, then maybe invest in a new one...
I wish you the best of luck, and I am sorry for your friend's loss...

Thanks Chris,
We have notified the police. Also, we are looking at salvage, and towing operations in the area. I've created a photo based on a sighting at a Flying J's near Manteca CA.
I'll be posting that shortly.
If that's a solid lead I'm assuming the bus in in Stockton or perhaps Sacramento.
Thanks again,
Best

Do you also have the VIN and any documentation? Some sly guy may try to do a quick repaint and alter it to look like a different bus... Inform the police of this info immediately! any info will help with the search. I will search here in Myrtle Beach, but it is not likely that it is over here
Luckily your friend is not hurt from any robbing incident. Things could get ugly... and it could also be A LOT worse! |

How about security camera footage from Flying J's? If they're lucky the guy paid for gas with a credit card. Are the police aware of that sighting? |

Thanks Chris and Pacman,
We are informing the police now. I think the yellow is the "new" color to conceal it for transport.
I'll ask them if they can inquire regarding the security footage. That's a great idea...stay tuned!
We're gonna get this bus back!!
Best,
John |

Gilly,
Wishing for the best for your friend, and following this thread. If it is the same bus, what kind of idiot paints a bus yellow to disguise it. I hope you find the bastard. _________________ Visit http://www.singlewheel.com |

Thanks Singlewheel,
Yes, yellow is an odd color to "conceal" it. But if we're looking for grey it is certainly different.
We have the police pulling the security camera footage of the Flying J's (with luck) and if the bastard paid for gas with a credit card we'll have something to track.
I've also posted to picture of it on a Truckers News Facebook page as well as the Flying J's FB page.
Hopefully something will turn up. Perhaps it's a different stolen one, that would be okay too if we help someone else find theirs.
Best,
John

Maybe there's a different angle on the security footage & it'd show the tow vehicle (license plate)?
Looks like bus' right front wheel is starting to fall off the side of the trailer... eeek.
You said you had a:
- front tire mount
- short rubber antenna (black)?
- 13 window (bus on trailer might be bullet blinker)
- air scoops
Is that 'for sure' your bus on the trailer? Just asking because if not... it's a rabbit hole & taking resources away from your bus.
Wishing you good luck...
Cheers,

Hi Easy e,
No this is not security cam footage, it's just a mock up I did on photoshop based on a report of the bus being seen at the Flying J's truck stop outside Manteca CA.
I sent it to the person who saw the bus to ask him if this resembles what he saw.
We are trying to get an LA detective to gain access to the security camera footage. So as of now it's just a fake rendering of what it MAY have looked like so people know what to look for.
Thanks for the help in finding this bus I really appreciate it.
Best,
John |

Thanks xcoldgrim,
Sounds like it's not the same one. I'll report it anyway since it sounds suspicious.
Meanwhile, I'll keep the search going. I've got an engine # now and also Mickey tells me that there was a plate on the back of the right side passenger seat. Bulkhead area facing the cargo area. It has 2 sets of numbers on the plate. He has no idea what these numbers are. Any ideas?
He mistakenly drilled thru the plate once to mount something then he realized a plate was there. This marking would set it apart from other buses like it. Probably no one has drilled thru that plate!!
I'll post the plate #'s shortly along with the engine block #.
Thanks again,
Best,
John |

Some new info on the missing 66 Bus:
Engine #: H0841084
ID #'s on bulkhead plate are:
14-4-425-001-114-130
And
UD-2112-121872-6134276
Not sure what they mean but I made another post asking for help on that.
Thanks

14-4-425-001-114-130
And
UD-2112-121872-6134276 |
This is the M-code plate.
It has the production date, factory options, and the VIN # (in lower right)
It should be in this format:
14 4
425 001 114 130
UD 2112 121872 6134276
I think you made a typo on the 2112 - it should be 2412 as 21 = Panel and 24 = Deluxe
The full VIN # is actually 246134276 though, this would be stamped by the battery tray. _________________ How to Post Photos

Any ideas on how else to get the word out on the stolen 1966 Bus?
Seems like these vehicles would be commonly transported, but where? Mexico?
If it eventually turns up at an auction is there a way to identify it and claim it?
Do thieves routinely remove VIN #'s and replace with new ones?
How do they sell without a title?
I would think the value is in restoration.

I would bet it is close to where it was taken. The only way out of Glendale is freeways and cop ridden surface streets. I would ask children in that area, kids tell on people these days. It is in a garage less than 3 miles away is my guess. Take a vw bus and drive around there, ask the curb creatures that hang out all day waiting for they govnmt check. I had a bike stolen many years ago and the first person I asked was a local kid and he knew exactly where the bike was. I bet the thief had a hard time getting the bus put away because folks see old buses! I have a strong suspicion the robber is a vw owner, someone that knows vw buses and the value of parts. _________________ 1971 Deluxe Sunroof Bay 1905 stroker, dual idf40's, 74mm Scat forged crank, engle 110 cam. I've got postings all over the internet. This bus HAS to turn up. Unless it's been shipped overseas.
I'd like to gain access a 7/11 security camera that was on the corner as well as the city of Glendale CA security cameras. Anyone know how to get access to such security footage?
As always, any comments are welcome and appreciated.
And yes, a picture will be revealed this weekend of the missing Mickey Bus.
Thanks
