It hurt my eyes. Photos don't do it justice.

I think even a millimeter or two would make the difference in fit. It can't be much more than that or the LED would contact the lense. I have an NOS tail light housing somewhere -- I'll try the bulb in that and get some more accurate measurements.

Well remember, the socket is intended for a tiny N 17 718 1/G6V5W taillight bulb, and the reflector is concave.

Here are some detailed shots showing the LED fit in a Type 34 tail light housing. First, a factory spec 6v 5W bulb in place. Lots of room there. The reflector is concave to project light outward.

Here's the CuLayer LED in the socket. The diameter is OK but the heat sink bottoms out on the concave reflector.

This shot shows the limited space for the bulb. The inside part of the lense projects about 7mm into the center ring, which gets pretty close to the LED.

Here's the back side of the housing. The pegs on the bulb base aren't able to engage fully with the socket.

I think if the base was about 2-3mm deeper it would be able to seat properly and the LED would still clear the lense.

It's definitely too bright for a running light.

The bulbs are 6v/12v compatible.

I'm going to ask Jim if he can make them 1-2 mm longer to allow the bulb to fully engage the socket. It's tight on the standard Type 3 socket as well but not like the T34.

Yes, the car is 6V. It's actually brighter than the camera can show but also more focused. The lens flare is a little misleading.
