I need some expert opinions. I installed my new transmission along with a new Bowden tube. I have 4 washers/spacers in place. Wondering if it's too many? Maybe I should remove 2 or 3? The old one only had one washer. Thanks

I have about the same amount of sag, and it works fine.

That looks decent to me. Probably at the edge of excessive but probably fine. It's there to add a measure of flexible tension to the cable action and to isolate any shifting of the transaxle on its rubber mounts from the cable.

Also: Nice to see you have the axle boot seam off to the side. (well, VW wanted it towards the rear, but I don't really think it matters that much either way)

I'd pull one out while it's easy to do.

The correct amount of bend in the Bowden tube is between 0.8 and 1.2 inches. Your's looks about right.

You DID install the bowden tube with the cable inserted so that the tube doesnt crack when you flex it to get it in, right? Not that I have ever done that... Embarassed

Thanks guys. I had posted the same pic on a VW Facebook page and most didn't even know the Bowden tube required a sag to it. One guy even posting "In my 25 years of working on VWs, I've never heard of that!". Remind me never to take my car to him for repairs!

Yes, the cable was already in the tube when I installed it. I was still careful not to over-bend it, though...better safe than sorry.

I'd get a ruler. That looks more like 2 inches to me, but the perspective in the photo makes it hard to be sure.

I think it's too much, I would remove a washer now as suggested above, it's easier now than later.

I think I'll just take half of them off (2) just to be safe. Cool

Ok, so I took 2 washers off and I think it looks better. Can you tell the difference?

Looks OK - did you actually measure the amount of bend? (0.8-1.2 inch).
