Getting ready to order a pair of calipers for my 74 Ghia to complete an entire brake rebuild. Rock Auto sells a standard caliper, then for 3 times the cost they have a Brazilian version. Anyone know what the difference is or have a recommendation? Id rebuild mine but for the cost Id rather buy a clean, ready to install set. Thanks!

I bought aftermarket units for mine and they were not too costly, they bolted right up and worked great - but that was over 15 years ago. Where are the "standard" units made? Are they re-built, or new? Give us some prices. You may get a better deal from one of the vendors here on thesamba.

Here is an eBay link to some new, and rebuilt calipers. Some have free shipping, and the cost is not bad. I am pretty sure that they are made in Brazil - way better then China. The PO of my 1971 rebuilt the original calipers, and they are a bear to change pads on. I think I will get a new pair of calipers soon. On my old Ghia with new calipers, changing the pads were a breeze.

I believe the pair I purchased were made by TRW - a good, reputable name. I do know that I used a TRW steering box when my old unit wore out - it worked for years without a hitch. I sold that Ghia many years ago, but I would not be surprised if the TRW parts are still working fine. Here is a link:

Good luck, and be sure to let us know how things go.

I did a brake rebuild about 18 months ago and purchased my calipers from CIP. They were TRW calipers out of Brazil. I paid around $60 apiece I think. I have about 10,000 miles on them now and no issues whatsoever.
