Thanks Christopher! Sorry I moved my post from the Ultimate Wheel part 2 thread because I thought it was more suited the original... I was in the wrong thread initially.
My Vanagon is sitting 70mm AVO's so if the fronts are going to be sticking out that far there will probably too much rubbing on the outer wheel arch lip so probably not a good idea then? My 17's sit just inside the lip so it might be better just to stick with 17's.
Thanks for your help! _________________ - 1989 Vanagon GL

I bought these wheels and was told they were from a Mercedes CLK but after probing a little deeper it seems that they are from a 2002 Mercedes E320. Anyhow, with a little help and hardware from Christopher Schimke they fit nicely with 215-65-16 tires wrapped around them. No wheel spacers necessary.

Selling the rims from my 2007 rabbit
These will fit VW Rabbit, Golf, Jetta 2005 and newer
And VW Passat and Audi 2001 and newer.
Name: Magny Cours
Size: 16" X 6.5"
Bolt Pattern: 5 X 112mm
Offset: 50mm
Thanks for any and all feedback! |

Sorry for the delay here! You can certainly use those wheels, but you would need to have the centerbores machined out to 66.56mm and you would need spacers front and rear, new front lug bolts, new rear wheel studs and new rear lug nuts.
One other issue that may arise is that you may have difficulty mounting the center caps due to interference with the front grease caps. You would just have to try it and see. _________________ "Sometimes you have to build a box to think outside of." - Bruce (not Springsteen)

Thanks for your response!
So, what i am gathering is that this wheel set is probably not the best way to go? Seems lots of things needs to happen to ensure a good fit?
Wait and keep looking? |

Hello!
I bought some wheels today that said they were: 5x112, 7x16 ET31 bore:6,65, but when I got them home it said ET37..
Will they fit 2WD and or 4WD?
Thanks. |

We will need the part number, or at least a photo of the wheels to be able to help. Those specs sound like OE Mercedes wheels, but could be something else too.
Simply judging by the 16x7 ET37 specs, you could use them on either a 2wd or a Syncro, but depending on which wheels they are, you may need longer studs (rear on a 2wd, front and rear on a Syncro) and you will most likely need new front lug bolts (2wd only), you may need spacers (more likely on a 2wd than a Syncro), etc.
If you can post the part number or photo of the wheel, I can be more specific and I can probably tell you if you will have any center cap clearance issues or not. _________________ "Sometimes you have to build a box to think outside of." - Bruce (not Springsteen)

Thank you Christopher for your help, I decided to send them back and now they're hopefully sending Mercedes wheels that should be ET33. |

Can anyone tell me if the stock steel wheels on a Syncro (86 if that matters) are the same ET as the stock steel wheels on a 2wd (84 westy wolfsburg if that matters)?
Just wondering if I was going to run into any troubles moving my 14" BFGs around from van to van if I wanted to in the future. I no longer have the stock steelies from the 2wd to compare.
Thanks,

So, I've got a line on a set of these passat wheels.
Making sure they will drop onto my syncro? Will I need to bore them to clear the front hub, or is that just a 2wd thing(?) <- I suspect it is (just for 2wd that is)

I owed both a syncro westy and a two wheel drive westy and the 14in steel wheels were the same. |
Yep, brettsvw is correct, the wheels are the same. Just make sure that you use the correct lug nuts to match the wheels. Vanagon alloy wheels require conical seat lugs and the Vanagon steel wheels require large ball seat lugs. _________________ "Sometimes you have to build a box to think outside of." - Bruce (not Springsteen)

Those wheels in the photo above are 15x7 ET37. In order to bolt them onto a Syncro, you will need a set of small ball seat lug nuts and you will need to either open up the centerbores of the wheels or you can grind down the lip on the front hub until the wheel fits. Another alternative is to run a set of thin spacers, but then you would need to install longer wheel studs.
The front grease caps will fit, but the rears will not...at least not without installing spacers. _________________ "Sometimes you have to build a box to think outside of." - Bruce (not Springsteen)

15x7, et45 Audi Fuchs. Forged, strong and light. I bored out the center to fit T3's hubcentric spacers and left about .050" of the original bore for the center caps to latch on to. I also shortened the grease caps about .200". 18mm spacers on the front along with conversion studs and 22mm spacers on the rear with longer studs as well; small ball seat lugnuts all around. I had some 205/70-R15 Yokohama Geolander AT/S' mounted up and the difference between this setup and stock is remarkable! It handles so much better, is much more stable and quieter too! Thanks again Chris!

Is there a big break kit that fit 15" Rhein south african rims?
-Keith |
Keith - I'm looking into this too. I have heard that the GoWesty kit does not fit the Rhein-15s. But the small car and Audi kits do.
Would love to hear from anyone else that has some perspective on this issue though. |

VC Carrot 15" rims powder coated bronze, 215/17/15 BFG's
I was nervous as hell about getting the brand new rims powder coated!!
I am very happy with how it turned out against the wolf-man grey. The camera doesn't do them justice!
All inspiration came from members on here cheers.
I know they will prob get scraped up, off roading etc....., but I will always know she was pretty once
